“After I get it taken care of, you can do whatever you need to get rid of the bad juju or what not to cleanse the space.”

Shyann blinks at my joke and shakes her head. “I think what we did just now helped in cleansing the space, but I’ll be sure to burn some sage.” She winks. “It’ll help with dead bodies and men who have been idiots.”

“Hey, at least this idiot got his head out of his ass,” I snort and come to my feet. I help her to hers and pull her into my arms. “Just so you know, I intend to keep from being that idiot ever again.”

“I’ll hold you to it.” She smiles, leaning deeper into me as she lays her head on my chest.

I wrap my arms around her and hold her. This is something I’ve truly missed. The way she would curl into me and hold on tight. I’ve got it back now, and I won’t let it go again. I’ll fight whatever wars are needed to keep her where she is. Even if it’s internal ones like I used to face growing up. Shyann’s light overshines all the darkness that is the past, and I’ll fight for it until my dying breath.

EPILOGUE

SHYANN

One Month Later . . .

I hate sitting in such a small room, waiting. I feel like the walls will close in on me at a moment’s notice. This is my first appointment, and I hate that I’m doing it alone. Not that War didn’t want to be here. Unfortunately, he was out on a run.

He’s supposed to be back in the next day or so, but I wish it were today.

Since the two of us got back together, he’s been overly attentive, making sure I have everything I need or could want. Mostly he’s just there and keeps me close to him.

I know he hates himself for pushing me away and hurting me the way he did, but in the end, we’ve worked it out. The balance between us is slowly stabilizing and becoming solid once more. I can’t say I don’t still feel the pain he put me through, but every day, I look at him and see that love in his eyes he has for me and know he won’t ever hurt me again.

Sighing, I fidget nervously, waiting for the doctor to come into the room. The nurses had already done my weight and blood pressure and had me pee in a cup. I contemplated not going through the hold medical way and sticking to homebirth with a midwife, but my grandma, after I mentioned this, said to at least see a doctor. As spirited as she is, she said my health is always more important and that I do this. Evidently, she remembered my mom having a rough time and didn’t want to see me go through the same.

The door opening quickly causes me to jump, and a small cry leaves my lips. My eyes widen when I see the person stepping into my room, thinking it was my doctor, but it’s not.

“Enzo,” I whisper, tears pricking my eyes. He’s here, and he looks like hell.

“Told you I wouldn’t miss a thing, baby,” he murmurs, closing the distance between us. Reaching up, he cups the side of my face with one hand and grabs my hand with the other. With easy movement, he slips a ring on my finger without looking at what he’s doing. “I love you, Shyann, and before our kid gets here, there’s gonna be another ring added to that one.”

My heart skips a beat, and I love him all the more. It’s as if him being here, showing when I least expected him to, snaps the balance between us fully in place, and I know we’ll be okay.

* * *

After my appointment, War told me to follow him to the clubhouse. The two of us went up to his room, and I lay with him while he took a nap. He needed it, and I suppose I did too since I passed out alongside him. I’ve found I don’t like sleeping without him holding me.

Once we woke up and War showed me how much he missed me by loving me slow and sweet, we joined the party happening outside.

The club decided to have a BBQ, and I’m having a blast.

War keeps me tucked into his side, wanting me close. I don’t mind considering I’ve missed him in the past week that he’s been gone.

“So, with War gone and got himself an ol’ lady whose next?” Pirate chuckles as War and I join him, Grimm, Sabotage, Ice, and Viking.

Both Fawn and Peyton are standing in similar holds as myself, and I find it must be a guy thing.

“What the fuck are you talking about?” Sabotage snorts.

“You know, getting a woman, claiming her and all that shit,” Pirate says, his tone filled with amusement. “I meant it’s gonna be Maverick or Grimm.”

“Fuck that shit,” Grimm sneers. “That ain’t fuckin’ happenin’.” His eyes go to the side, and I notice him narrowing his gaze on Apricot. I turn my attention back to his face and take in the expression. The way he’s clenching his jaw says it all. She’s who he wants but won’t allow himself to have her.

Hmm, interesting.

“Yeah, okay.” Ice grins. “We takin’ bets on this?”

“Um, I don’t think that’s a good idea,” I murmur, my eyes still on Grimm.

His gaze comes to mine, and he shakes his head, turns, and walks away.

“Well, it’s going to be one of them,” Fawn says softly. “Maverick has been in a mood since getting back and finding out that Navaeh is dating someone. Grimm, we all know he wants Apricot but thinks he’s not good enough for her. That she’s pure and innocent.”

I have to agree with Fawn on her assessment. I’ve gotten to know both the women she mentions. I think both would be perfect for Maverick and Grimm. It’s just they’ve all got to want it for themselves and stop fighting the inevitable.

I guess we all need to sit back and watch as everything falls into place as it should. If they want it bad enough, they’ll go for it. Fate always goes the way it should. It’s just a matter of time.
