“Austin,” I blurted, cutting him off.

“Hey,” he replied, his voice softening.

My heart pounded so hard I felt it in my throat. “Hi.”

“I think I know why you’re calling. I’m almost there. I’ll see you in about an hour, maybe sooner.”

He was already on his way. Wow.

“Okay.”

“Abigail?”

“Yes?” I asked, hating that my throat felt tight with unshed tears.

“I didn’t stay away because I didn’t want to see you. I was hunting the men that are after you. Okay?”

“Okay,” I repeated a second time.

“Let me talk to Talon.”

“You’re on speaker.”

“We got shit to discuss, brother. Raven, Hawk, and Carrion are with me. Be ready.”

“I hear you, pres.”

The call ended.

My gaze flicked to Talon. “What did he mean? Be ready?”

“I don’t know, but it’s a universal warning to be ready for anything to go down. Stay sharp. Arm up. Watch our surroundings. And protect you with my life.”

“All that from two words?”

His lips twitched with the beginning of a smile. “Yeah, babe. It’s that simple.”

I paced for the entire hour and drank two more shots. I had a good buzz going, which is the only reason I wasn’t more nervous.

When the rumble of bikes alerted us of their arrival, I rushed to the window, eager to get a look at my brother. The only blood-related family I had.

The first thing that stood out was his height. He was taller than Talon, who was six foot four. Crow had impossibly broad shoulders and thick dark hair the same shade as mine. I noticed as soon as he lifted his helmet.

Power seemed to ooze from him as he turned and walked toward the front door with long, energetic strides. I didn’t see his face yet. His presence held me spellbound before he set foot inside.

“Yeah,” Talon whispered next to me. “Crow has always been like that.”

I wiped my sweaty palms off on my jeans.

A heartbeat later, Crow entered, striding toward me and coming to a halt a few feet from where I stood.

“Abigail.”

“Gail,” I whispered, staring at him in wonder. “I like to be called Gail.”

“Gail,” he acknowledged.

“I’ve seen you before.”
