I thought of Gail and how I couldn’t save her in this scenario.

I’m so glad you’re not with me, baby.

The trucks kept racing toward one another, and a head-on collision. I hoped my leathers would protect my skin. Thank fuck I wore a helmet.

I rag-dolled, airborne, until I slammed into the unforgiving asphalt. The impact was fucking brutal. I lost count of how often I rolled, bouncing multiple times as I felt a few bones crack in the process.

Fuck. A groan escaped as I tried to move, to breathe, and agony fired along my chest. Looking down, I found a small stickembedded in my chest. It wobbled as it stuck straight up in the air.

Did I puncture a lung?

Caw...caw.

The crow. He sensed danger, agitated by the presence of our enemy.

Intense hatred vibrated nearby. I could feel it. The crow’s round body dropped from the sky, landing at my feet. Ruffling his feathers, he began squawking, but there was nothing I could do. I didn’t have the same ability that Hawk and Carrion did.

It won’t be easy.

Carrion’s words echoed in my head.

It won’t be easy, but you can do it.

What the fuck did he mean?

It didn’t matter. I wouldn’t be awake long enough to figure it out.

“Gail,” I coughed, turning my head as I choked, tasting the coppery tang of blood.

Raven and Carrion would know Gail was my mate. They would convince Crow. She would be safe. Protected. That was all that mattered.

My eyes shut, and I lost the battle to remain awake, falling into the arms of an endless dark abyss.

Chapter 10

It wasn’t long before Crow turned my way, watching as I folded my arms across my chest and scowled. I didn’t hear his sigh, but I could tell he did.

He picked up two beers and walked in my direction, ticking his chin toward a hallway that led to the right. Since I wanted answers, I followed him. We entered a private room that looked reserved for important meetings. Framed leather vests hung on the walls. A giant grim reaper, molded from steel, suspended on the farthest wall and loomed over the wooden table in the center. In the center of the table, a skull with a beard and crown had been etched into the surface.

“This is the chapel,” Crow informed me, closing the door as he entered. “It’s where the club holds meetings. We call them church.”

“You have a chapel at The Roost, don’t you?”

“Yeah. It’s similar to this one.”

He handed me a beer and sat at the table, ticking his chin at the chair across from him.

I sat, rolling the bottle between my palms. “Why did you send Talon away?”

Crow popped the top off his beer and took a long swallow. “I needed to make a point.”

“What point would that be?”

Crow leaned back in his chair. “Rules aren’t negotiable, and neither are a president’s orders.”

“And you ordered him to stay away from me?” I didn’t understand biker politics.

“No,” he replied, gripping the beer as his knuckles turned white. “I told him to keep his cock in his pants, and if he touched my sister, I’d rip off his fucking dick.”
