The next morning, we got up and headed to the shop. Work passed by quickly, there was still so much stuff left to establish. All our former work was gone, so with every person that came in wanting to rent a boat, we had to start the whole process from scratch, which was a major task.

When it was closing time, I grabbed Lennox and made a run for it before anyone could ask me any questions. Plus, I was excited about my first soccer practice since I got the full time coaching gig.

“I’m so excited to see you play,” she said bouncing in the passenger seat on the way to the field.

“I’m not actually going to be playing. I’m coaching, there’s a difference.”

“Whatever, I’m happy to see you do it. You need some fun in your life.”

When we got to the field the team was already gathered in the center. I left Lennox sitting in the stands while I went to warm up with the guys.

The hour went by quick. We ran a mile around the field, ran some drills, and split up into two teams to have a little practice game. Lennox got her wish and I did play with the guys for a bit. If anything, it just reminded me that I wasn’t eighteen anymore and was seriously out of shape. I was breathless by the time I called an end to practice. I sent the guys home before packing up my bag and starting my journey back to her.

When I approached, I found Connor leaning against the stands, talking to Lennox. I could tell by the way he was holding himself that he was hitting on her.

“Connor, what do you think you’re doing, man?” I asked as I closed the distance between us.

“I’m just introducing myself to Lennox here.” He didn’t take his eyes off her. I felt that ping of jealously but reminded myself that he was just a seventeen-year-old kid.

“You know this is my fiancée, right?”

“Yeah, she told me. You know, Coach,” he finally turned his eyes to me, “you shouldn’t leave a girl this beautiful sitting alone. Someone is sure to snatch her up.” He turned back to Lennox, giving her a smile.

I laughed. “Yeah, but I doubt it will be you. Get out of here.” I lightly shoved him as I took Lennox’s hand.

He started walking off but turned back to us. “Hey, I turned on the charm and it was working, wasn’t it?”

“Something like that,” she teased.

I groaned. “Don’t give the kid false hope.”

Connor laughed before turning back around and running for his truck.
