“Wait, as her instructor, I haven’t agreed to this yet,” Levi said through gritted teeth.

He turned to the middle-aged man standing beside Mateo, who had already revealed his identity as Nathan’s instructor, with his promise to punish Nathan. “How many yards are we talking about here? 200? 300? And how are we making this thing official? We don’t want to win and then start hearing excuses about how the bet doesn’t matter.”

Nathan scoffed at his words while Mateo growled, asking Levi through gritted teeth, “How can you allow her to do this?”

Levi eyed him for a second. “Allow? She already made a decision when she stood up to challenge him. She’s so damn stubborn that I once spent an entire week trying to convince her not to go on a trip with her friend, and she still went. Besides, I have full confidence in her ability to win this douchebag.”

Mateo pursed his lips and looked away while Nathan’s instructor said, “Let’s do a hundred-yard challenge. For the legalities, we’ll get the staff to get us a challenge contract with the terms agreed upon.”

After a staff member wearing a blue t-shirt with the shooting range’s name and logo on it arrived with a challenge contract, I read through the drafted contract, nodded, and made to sign.

“Are you sure about this, Aurora?” Mateo asked.

He sounded worried, so I answered before signing. “90 percent sure.”

Once all the legalities were completed and the five of us: Mateo, Nathan, Nathan’s instructor, Levi, and I had copies of the document, we started the match in a separate room with an electronic target system that announced the points from one to a hundred with higher points based on how close our shots were to the bull’s eye.

The room was full of people from our shooting hall and people from other halls who had come to watch the fun.

Ignoring the low hum of murmured conversations from the audience who came to watch the match, I rubbed my palms together, envisioning Nathan on his knees apologizing to me and bowing to me.

We chose to make the shooting match a public challenge, and the electronic target system was responsible for recording and announcing the points of every shot.

I allowed Nathan to go first, so he could feel good for a short while.

After a staff member signaled the start of the match with a small green flag, Nathan started shooting. His points were announced by the electronic target system as he hit points ranging from 70 to 83, with the highest of the agreed ten shots being 83.

Nathan glanced at me with a complacent grin as he moved out of the shooting stall. He looked so satisfied with his mediocre scores that I could only shake my head as I strode into the shooting stall.

In the stall, I made sure my safety gear was in place. Then, I picked up the gun, jammed a new magazine in it, and held a shooting stance while waiting for the staff to drop his green flag. Once the flag dropped, I started shooting, ignoring the automatic point announcement that never went below 90 points.

When I was done, I removed the magazine from the gun in a crisp movement, stepped out of the shooting stall, and strode to where Ryan, Mateo, Nathan, and their group were standing, staring at me with wide eyes or gaping mouths.

A staff member announced my win. “Congratulations to the winner of this challenge, Aurora, who won her opponent, Nathan, with 967 of 1000 points to 775 points.”

Several people who came to watch the challenge cheered while staring at me. Levi came to stand next to me with his hand raised for a high five as he said with a grin, “Byrne, you’ve gotten rusty on your hundred yards. We’re working on that next week.”

I pressed my palms to his with a wide grin and responded in a joking tone. “Aye, Captain Levi.”

I crossed my arms over my chest as I turned to Nathan. “I think it’s time for you to do as you promised.”

Nathan scoffed and his scowling face looked extremely ugly under the shooting range’s bright lighting. “I don’t have to do any such thing.”

Unfortunately, his instructor stood behind him with his arms crossed over his chest. “But you do or we’ll lose the rights to train in this shooting range. I’ll also be sure to inform everyone in the training camp about the unsavory details of this experience before suspending you for a few months because Crawford Pack enforcers are honorable warriors who keep their words. That’s not to mention the points I’ll need to deduct. I don’t think you can afford to lose any more points now, can you?”

I was curious about their points system, but I kept my gaze fixed on Nathan, who abruptly dropped to his knees. “I’m sorry for insulting you and . . . everything . . .”

I stared at him with a light smile. “I think you’re forgetting the other part of this bet.”

He gritted his teeth, glaring at me and his body trembled with rage as he bowed his head, something he should only have to do before the elders in his pack’s top hierarchy, his Alpha and Luna.

After bowing his head for less than thirty seconds, he looked up to glare at me.

I didn’t give him a chance to regret anything as I raised my hand, fingers slightly curled, and swiftly brought it forward with a sharp, controlled motion. When the palm of my hand connected to his cheek with a resounding ‘smack’, I couldn’t help the smirk that formed on my lips as he glared up at me with the imprint of my palm visible on the right side of his face.

He gritted his teeth so hard that I could hear them clattering. There was so much hatred in his reddened eyes that if he glared at me any harder, lasers would shoot out of his eyes.

However, I couldn’t care less about the hate in his eyes. I was very pleased to have taught him a lesson for running his filthy mouth around like an idiot.
