We stayed there for quite a while after Levi stopped crying. He looked so numb that I didn’t think he could drive, but when I offered to call Joel to come pick us up, he insisted on not disturbing Joel and drove us all the way back to the apartment.

After a quick shower, I got into his bed with him and spooned him while combing my fingers through his hair to help him sleep.

I woke up to the sun filtering into my room through the curtains and the weight of my beautiful girl covering my body. Even though my eyes were still closed, I could tell from her sleeping posture, her slower-than-human but fast werewolf heartbeat, and the way she liked to stick her ears to my chest so she could use my slow heartbeat as tunes to put her to bed that Aurora was the one lying on my body.

It had been a while since I woke up feeling this light. Since my sister died, everything seemed heavy. Even though I had seemed calm, my sleep had been very poor and I couldn’t help thinking of those days when my little sister was younger while our mother was alive.

Now that I’d spoken to Aurora about all those memories, reminiscing with a smile on my face throughout most of the night, those memories didn’t make me so sad anymore. They made me feel better. While I wasn’t exempt from the blame of wielding the oak stake that ended my sister’s life, I knew that our mother would have wanted me to end her life, anyway. Because she had strayed so far from being my sister and our mother’s daughter with the sadistic acts she had become known for in the Pits.

If King Drew hadn’t insisted on burning her until there was nothing but ashes left, her existence would have come back to haunt me and my loved ones.

I shook my head to push out thoughts of my sister because I knew it was ruining my mood. So I diverted my attention by opening my eyes a mere sliver.

I stared down at Aurora’s face on my chest, using a finger to push her hair behind her ears so her palm-sized, heart-shaped face could be fully exposed to my sight. Although her light blue eyes were covered, I was still captivated by her peaceful expression and the rest of her delicate features, including her full cupid bow lips that looked pouty when she was asleep.

A gentle smile graced my lips as I whispered a wish to the gods that nothing would ever come between me and Aurora. While she was a Fae Omega and she probably wouldn’t let go of the rest of her true mates, I prayed to the gods that I would not lose my place by her side and that we would live a long, beautiful, and happy life together.

After staring at her face for a while, I saw her eyelashes flutter slightly and knew that she was waking up. I looked up at the ceiling, thinking of my plans to court Aurora while wondering how to put forward the question of courting to her.

I had gotten her courting gifts a long time ago, but she needed to agree to my courting before I could give them to her. So I decided to just take her to have fun and ask to court her afterward.

I felt a little unhappy that we were in Mac Tire City, an unfamiliar city, instead of Ni Daonni City, where I’d spent a lot of time researching dating destinations just for this very moment. Thankfully, there were other things that we could do in Mac Tire City and I’d found several great spots for dates, too.

A light kiss on my chin made me look down into Aurora’s blue eyes.

“Are you okay?” She asked.

“Yeah,” I said with a smile, placing a kiss on her forehead. “Today’s a free day. What do you want to do? Let’s go on a date?”

“No, I don’t feel like going out . . . Can we just stay like this forever?”

“If that’s what you want.” I couldn’t help the smile that curled the corner of my lips at her words as I wrapped my hand around her waist and lowered my lips to meet hers in a gentle, sensual tango of a kiss.

Our kiss went from gentle to hot and hungry as Aurora’s arm went around my neck, her fingers pushing into my hair to grab a handful of it in a grip that sent a shiver of excitement down my spine.

I closed my eyes, dropping kisses down her jaw to her neck while taking in deep, hungry breaths of her sweet poppy flower scent as she straddled me, sitting on me in her Minnie Mouse pajama shorts.

My breath caught as that part of her dragged over me through our clothes.

I groaned when she moved the second time and since I couldn’t take it anymore, I pushed her off me, covering her lips with mine as I covered her body with mine.

I covered her face and neck with the kisses I had always yearned to cover them in, pausing to raise my hands as she pulled my pajama top off my body. Our kissing quickly turned into intense making out, teasing and grinding as we pulled each other’s clothes off.

A shaky breath left Aurora’s lips as I sheathed myself in her body, acutely aware of every feeling and the moans that left her lips with every movement I made. It wasn’t the first time we were doing this, but it was the first time I was fully in control, making every decision and every thrust and pump because I loved Aurora and not because of hazy vampire lust feelings that were strengthened by my feelings for her.

It made every movement, every thrust, and every part of us that was pressed against each other so much more meaningful as I made love to Aurora in a way I’d never done with anyone.

So when she came, with shuddering cries, I came just after her, emptying into her body as I buried my fangs in her neck. I didn’t take a delicious pull of her blood though because what I wanted was to leave a mark on her neck and draw out her pleasure with the vampire endorphins in my fangs. Given the fact that vampires couldn’t leave claiming marks like werewolves, my bite was simply a hickey, as well as a temporary acknowledgment that Aurora Byrne was mine.

We weren’t officially mated yet, but we would soon be.

Soon she would be mine, her destiny tied to mine by an official mating ceremony that dated millennia. Even if I had to share her with a few other people in the future, this moment was all the evidence that Aurora and I were made for each other.

“I love you, Aurora Byrne,” I said, looking into Aurora’s light blue eyes and the flecks of light that sparkled vibrantly in them.
