Dawson reached down and kissed me again.

“In that case, I’ll just have to tell you every fucking day. I want you, and I want us. And seeing you today with my son, I…I want more. I want to tell him about us.”

I waited for the fear, the panic to rise up inside me.

But it never came.

“I want that too,” I admitted. “I don’t want to hide.”

Dawson’s answering smile knocked the remaining breath right out of my body.

Dawson

An hour later, after a long shower and with our stomachs rumbling for sustenance (tacos don’t last), Iain and I made our way down to his kitchen.

He was wearing my button-down with the sleeves rolled up, and a pair of grey sweatpants. The shirt was long on him, but like everything the man wore, he was sexy as hell. Especially when he had his long hair pulled up in a messy bun and the shirt started slipping off, exposing his shoulder. I was tempted to haul him back into his bedroom and start all over again, but we both needed a break. After all, we had the rest of the night.

I threw my jeans on, and since he had my shirt, I borrowed one of his. The T-shirt was tight on me, but Iain insisted. And hey, if he was happy, so was I.

And that’s how we strolled into the living room of his house, hand in hand.

Lennie was sitting at the dining room table with his laptop open, working. He glanced up at us, smiled briefly, nodded, then grabbed his laptop and headed for the guest wing. The privacy was appreciated.

I headed for the freezer since I was craving ice cream.

Then I remembered the cake.

My sweet tooth was in full force now that my other appetite had been sated.

Well, sated for now.

But I didn’t stray far from Iain. And he was the same, affectionate in a way I hadn’t anticipated, outside of sex. Whether it was a gentle touch on my back, a heated look, or simply holding my hand, the synergy and ease between us went well beyond the bedroom.

Part of it was because Iain and I had been around each other for the past several years. There was a familiarity there, and a comfort that made the transition to lovers a bit easier. I’d seen different sides of him, not just at work but here in his home, things that only someone who knew and worked with him closely had access to.

Trust.

In and out of the bedroom.

A gift I didn’t take lightly. And even though the same couldn’t be said about Iain’s access to my life, up until this point, at least, I was ready to let him in. We’d already started that today. Him meeting my son was a huge step.

I just hoped Jaxon would be all right with this turn of events.

I’d been open with my son about the fact that I liked to date men and women. But knowing that and having my boyfriend around were two very different things. And me having a boyfriend who was a famous musician to boot was a lot to handle.

That was probably true for me, as well as Jaxon.

Lost in my head, I stared at the contents of the freezer while Iain grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge.

Then he leaned up and kissed my cheek.

I was suddenly wide awake again.

I pulled out two containers of ice cream: mint chocolate chip and caramel fudge brownie.

As soon as I turned around, Iain raised an eyebrow at me.

“What? We burned a lot of calories.”
