He held out a hand, and I reluctantly accepted it. My legs didn’t shake when I stepped down, which was good.

I felt slow, though.

Really slow.

Zander was content to walk at my pace. He left his hand in mine as we retrieved his laptop and returned to my apartment.

As promised, he left me to my own devices after helping me to the couch. His fingers moved rapidly over his keyboard, and I lifted my feet up onto the cushions, laying horizontally.

I dozed until my phone dinged in my pocket a few hours later, and jerked awake, sleepily checking my texts.

The message was from Zander, who was closing his laptop and standing up.

I hadn’t even realized I had his number.

“The list is in your messages.” His voice was smooth, but firm. “If you’re still tired after eating so much today, text me back, and I can give you an extra day.”

One extra day.

So generous.

With that, he slipped out of my apartment.

My body still felt bloated and full, so I opened the text and read through the list.

There were four options listed, with the points outlined beneath them.

Move in together or live in neighboring apartments

Feed each other at least three times a week until you’ve adjusted, then at least one to two, no blood bags
