My stomach instantly churns with unease, but I try to dismiss them as a couple of rude jerks. Hopefully they're just going to flirt with us and then let us pass.

One of them speaks up, his voice heavy with a thick accent. "You ladies should know better than to walk around without your club."

A chill runs down my spine as he mentions our 'club'. Fear seeping into every muscle in my body.

From my peripheral I spot Aziza turning toward me, her eyes wide with unease.

As if it's happening in slow motion, a gunshot rings out and Aziza grabs onto her leg, screaming in agony.

Without hesitation, Rayna and I wrap our arms around Aziza and begin to run.

Before we can get far, Rayna is yanked back by her hair and one of the men starts raining blows on her face.

My heart hammers uncontrollably in my chest as I try to figure out what to do, but the other man is already coming for me.

His hot breath is on my neck as I force myself to get away from him.

Aziza hobbles over toward the wall, desperately trying to pulling out her phone.

My breathing is ragged and my whole body trembles with fear as I try to figure out how we can get away from these men.

He lunges toward me, his hands outstretches and knocking me off my feet.

I hit the concrete with a loud thud, the impact jarring my body.

My assailant pins me down with all of his weight and I struggle beneath him, desperately trying to break free.

My cross body purse is still strapped around me, so I dig into it and search for anything that could aid me.

I fumble my hand inside until my fingers wrap around a familiar handle—my pocket knife.

I quickly flip open the blade and pull it out of my purse.

With all of my strength, I jam the sharp edge into my attacker's stomach. He releases a guttural groan of pain, giving me just enough time to push him off me with a quick kick.

"Fuck!" he hisses, stumbling backwards and clutching his wounded stomach.

I scramble to my feet and make a run for it, heading behind the man assaulting Rayna.

I pull back my leg and give him a swift kick to the groin, causing him to drop to his knees.

Rayna runs out from in front of him and we both charge over to Aziza, wrapping our arms around her and run as fast as we can.

This is the only chance we have to get away, so we run like our lives depend on it, because they do.

Fortunately, as soon as we round the corner there are big, bold red letters that read 'Emergency'.

We rush toward the entrance and I glance back, spotting the two men watching us head into the safety of the hospital.

As we rush up to the registration desk, our words tumble out in panicked tones.

We explain we were attacked and before we can finish explaining what happened, a nurse comes out with a wheelchair for Aziza, swiftly taking her back into the emergency room.

Rayna continues telling the registrar what happened as I fumble to pull my phone out from my purse, desperately trying to unlock it and call Ivar.

For the love of God, please answer.

After what feels like an eternity he finally picks up, "Yeah?"
