"You haven't seen her since you left." He states matter-of-factly.

I nod, unable to meet his sympathetic gaze.

I shut my eyes for a moment, trying to suppress years of pent-up hatred and anger toward my mother. But, tears escape from the corner of my eyes, betraying my true feelings.

"I hated her for everything she put me through," I confess, my voice shaking with every word.

Ivar nods, "I know."

I shake my head, "That's the thing, you don't know. You don't know about what happened to me back there. You have nofucking clue how she could've gotten me out of that situation if she just believed me."

Ivar's eyes soften and the tears slip from the corners of my eyes.

"I fucking hate her, but I'm not going to live with any regrets. This is my chance to get everything off my chest. So, will you go with me?"

Ivar's forced smile melts into a genuine one as he pulls me close, "Of course I will, sweet girl."

CHAPTER ELEVEN

Ivar

I've looked all over the damn club for Runes, but haven't been able to find him. Fenrir's deep voice booms from behind me.

"You good?" His concern is evident in his voice.

I turn and shrug, "I'm all right. You know where Runes is?"

He nods, "Yeah, he mentioned heading to the pharmacy to get some meds. Arik came down with a fever and Fern didn't want to risk taking him out."

"That makes sense. We don't want anyone else getting sick. Hopefully Arik will feel better soon." I comment.

Fenrir nods in agreement, "Yeah, let's hope so. You know how tough it is on them when they're little. So, what's up? Need my help with something?"

I lick my lips nervously and give Fenrir the quickest version I can. "I don't know if anyone told you, but an officer showed up here a little bit ago looking for Starla. Her mother was in a bad accident, and we're gonna head to Texas so she can say her goodbyes, get some closure, or do whatever she needs to."

Fenrir's brows shoot up in surprise, "Fuck man, I'm sorry to hear that. How long are you gonna be gone?"

What a question.

I let out a deep sigh, "I'm not sure yet. I'd say at least four or five days."

Fenrir nods sympathetically, "Hopefully, Aesir and Magnus will be back by then with the girls. It sucks not having people close while shit's getting tense around here, but you have to go. I understand. She close with her mom?"

I shake my head, "No. I think it's the opposite."

Fenrir furrows his brows, "Really?"

I nod as I continue on, "Yeah, I think her mom had something to do with how I found her. Starla hasn't explicitly said anything about it, but she mentioned hating her mother for what she did . . . so,"

"So, it makes you wonder." He practically reads my mind.

"Yeah, exactly. You understand."

Fenrir nods knowingly, "I do. Shit like this is tricky. It's good you're doin' what you can for your woman, though."

"Damn straight. I'd never make her do this alone."

Fenrir leans up against the weathered white painted brick wall, his dark eyes sparkling with amusement. "She's it for you, isn't she?"
