“Thank you,” Kristle says. When she turns to me, her face instantly switches from in love to all business. “In exchange forus coming here and strengthening your numbers, my mother would like your assistance.”

I raise a brow. “In exchange?”

Kristle nods, a knowing smirk on her face. Narissa definitely told her what to say.

“By my account, we are the ones providing you with a safe haven—not the other way around.”

“You’re right. However, like your cousin here, having the rest of us come increases the chances of your men finding mates and strengthening your pod.”

“I’ll be sure to factor that into my decision.” I smile, knowing full well that if they’re asking me for help, I would’ve given it without this back and forth. “What is it you want in return?”

Mizu looks at me like I’m crazy. He does not recognize this little game Kristle and I are playing with one another.

“My father, uncles, and cousins are all swimming the sea. We don’t know where they are, and my mother and I are requesting your help in locating them.”

“Why didn’t you say something before?” I ask, leaning forward. When they told me that they were gone, I assumed they had a way to contact them, a meetup location, something, anything. But knowing that their loved ones are out there somewhere, possibly hurt, maybe captured…I can’t sit by and do nothing about that.

“We weren’t sure we could trust you,” Kristle says quietly, knowing exactly where my line of thinking just went.

“Trust or not. Your pod is out there. What kind of leader lets their family?—”

“Hey!” Kristle yells, getting to her feet. “We had no other choice. It was a decision made by the entire pod that they would follow Sky and look for help along the way.”

“How long have they been missing?” I grind out the words, not willing to let go of my anger. These people aren’t even partof my pod and already I feel a connection to them. It may be because of Mizu mating into their pod, but the thought of these men lost and alone in the seas makes me sick.

“Eight months.” Shame coats her words. Good. She should be ashamed. If that were my father out there, I’d be tearing the world apart to know he’s safe. These women are a little too unconcerned for my comfort.

“Eight months?” I grunt in frustration before I stand up, walk over to the phone, and dial Skarlyt.

“Hello?” she answers sweetly.

“Emergency. Get to my house now.” I leave no room for argument and hang up the phone.

“Now Pearl—” Mizu begins.

I point my finger into his face.

“Don’t you ‘now Pearl’ me.’ If that was you or Dad out there, I’d be losing my mind. I never would’ve let you go on your own. We would’ve found allies…”

“There were no allies. We only had ourselves, and we couldn’t leave Sky alone.”

“Then youallshould have gone,” I snap back.

She lowers her head, and a tear slips free. The sight makes me feel awful, but I know I am right.

“Who do I have to kill?” Rayne asks the second she materializes in front of me, letting go of Skar’s hand.

“No one,” I tell her, looking over at Kristle. “Yet…”

Rayne, being the bloodthirsty vampire she is, pouts at that news.

“I need Skarlyt to teleport Kristle home.”

“But—” Kristle begins, stepping forward to defend herself. I hold up a hand to pause her.

“To get items that belong to her family to help you do a locator spell. Apparently,” I look pointedly over at Kristle. “Somemembers of her pod are missing. Between your magic and my knowledge of the seas, I am hoping we can find them quickly.”

“And then we kill some people?” Rayne asks excitedly.
