I wave my hand and gesture at the fish. “You eat, and I’ll keep telling you my story.”

My heart breaks at the sight of him, and I am desperate to do anything to take his mind off his suffering.

“You mentioned the king of dragons…my mother used to tell me stories of how they ruled the supernatural world,” he says between bites.

I dip my chin in agreement. “The way Andres tells it; his father was an amazing ruler. Your mother was right, they were able to keep the peace within the supernatural world for centuries. When the hunters I told you about earlier crossed the ocean, it forced everyone into hiding.”

“Sometimes hiding is the only safe option.”

I wave my hand once more, gesturing to his fish.

“Anyway, for the past five years, a large group of us on the island have been working tirelessly to make the island a safe haven forallsupernaturals. No matter what faction or if you’re a hybrid?—”

He scoffs. “Hybrids don’t?—”

I bite my lip, a small smile tugging the corners of my mouth.

“They exist too?”

I nod. “They do. They are very, very rare, but I know a few personally. Most of them have one side that is stronger than the other, but a few have the magic of both parents that are equally matched.”

“Incredible,” he says, his eyes wide.

“But the big thing we’ve been working on is a supernatural network like a 911 system.”

“911?”

“I had the same reaction. It’s like emergency services for supernaturals around the world. We have teams that monitor it twenty-four-seven. If there is someone in danger, they only need to send a message and picture of where they are and the team teleports to them, bringing them back to the island.”

“The witches on your island teleport?”

“Yeah… Why? How do the Daughters of Eris get around?” I ask.

“They use portals.” He shrugs before going back to the original subject. “That 911 thing is amazing though. Seriously. I wish it was more well known.”

“We’ve been working on that. It’s gaining traction, but Matt is trying to figure out how to reach those who are more remote without cell phone service.”

“So, in order to access it, you have to have cell phone service?” His question is one of the main things we’ve been trying to work on. There are groups like the jaguar pride in the middle of the Amazon jungle who, despite constantly being asked to come live on the island, choose to remain deep in the rainforest. The only way they can contact us is through a satellite phone.

“Unfortunately. Right now, Matt’s working on a way to place a spell on cell phones that allows them to access thesupernatural network through magic rather than cell phone service.”

“But then how do you get them out to everyone?”

“And that right there is the big question,” I tell him as he slowly finishes his fish. “They’re working on it and if anyone can figure it out, it’s Matt.”

“What about more sea nymphs? More like you?”

I heave out a sigh before telling him about finding Kristle and her pod, then moving into the fact that Sky is currently captured.

“Shouldn’t you be there with them?” he asks.

“This was more important,” I tell him, the look of shock not leaving his face. “You’re more important.”

“But… How…”

I let out a slow breath knowing that I have no choice but to tell him about my stalkerish ways. “Well… Uh…. I kinda used to watch you.”

“Watch me?” The corner of his mouth tips up into a smirk.
