She looks at him, her eyes still full of anger for a few beats before they soften.

“Taron is right,” Narissa says with a sigh. “It’s just been very hard hearing his screams.”

I watch as my mate’s posture relaxes.

“I know, and that’s why I won’t hold it against you. Come on, let’s head inside to plan the rescue,” Pearl says, spinning and walking toward her house, sliding her arm through mine as she goes, pulling me with her.

“Matt?” she calls out as we get inside, handing him a phone.

“Let me work my magic,” he says, walking over to the TV on the wall, scoping up a laptop as he goes. By the time all the people are in the house and Matt is done with his clicking, photos of a large wooden ship on a beach in Greece are displayed on the screen.

“Everyone except Alaric, Skarlyt, Narissa, Taron, Matt, Breanne, and Loukas, if you wouldn’t mind stepping outside. There are far too many people inside to plan properly,” Pearl says, her voice easily traveling over everyone. The new sea nymphs mutter amongst themselves but eventually leave, followed by the rest of her friends, Lennox and Darren among them.

“This would be easier at the academy,” Matt says. Pearl shakes her head, looking out the back patio doors.

“Amelia and Zach aren’t ready to be that far from their father yet.”

Everyone nods in understanding except me.

“Okay, I feel like I’m lost. What is going on?”

With that, Pearl launches into a quick rundown about how one of Narissa’s pod, Sky, was taken and is being tortured by humans on this boat. The former I knew about already, but the latter, him being tortured and his cries for help being easily heard, is new.

“And you want to rescue him?” I ask, my gaze turning back to the photos, studying them closer.

“Yes.”

“First thing we need to know is how many humans are armed on that boat,” Skarlyt asks.

“We’ve counted close to one hundred, though they all wear the same outfits. It could be more, and it could be less,” Taron says.

“But just based on the hair color and body shapes we know it's more than fifty,” Narissa adds.

“And they’re armed, with guns?” Alaric asks, and Narissa and Taron confirm with nods.

“I know this island,” I say, walking closer to the screen that shows the pictures. “It’s not far from Corfu. It’s not large and you could easily surround them if you had the numbers.” I look down at Matt. “Can you get an aerial view of Greece up on the screen?”

A few clicks later, and I’m looking at a map of Greece and pointing to a small island off the coast of Corfu.

“This is Ereikousa, and it’s where I am almost positive that boat is. See how small the island is? The boat probably takes up most of the beach. If you could figure out a way to disable their weapons, you could easily take them out with a small team.”

“Can you use a similar spell to what you used with the mages? Create barriers if we make multiple smaller teams with a witch in each?” Alaric asks Skarlyt.

“We should be able to,” she confirms.

“And we should go at night so that you can use the vamps,” Breanne adds.

With my geographical knowledge, Alaric’s battle strategy, Skarlyt’s magic, and Pearl’s knowledge of the sea, a plan begins to form.

“Okay, I think we have a solid plan in place,” Alaric says, looking around at the group. “Now we need to decidewhen.”

“We have to make sure we get there at night,” Pearl adds.

“Okay, Greece is six hours ahead of us right now,” Matt says, glancing up from his computer.

“So, it’s just before sunrise?” I ask.

Matt looks back down at his computer, giving me a nod of confirmation.
