“Are you new here?” Kayne asks and, with that, they begin a conversation about magic and what the school is like while Phoebe and I step back and watch them. Both of us let out a relieved breath.

“I was hoping the age difference wouldn’t be too much. It was either him or Ryker,” Phoebe says.

“I think either one would’ve been good. But Kayne is not a normal six-year-old either,” I supply.

She chuckles. “He is too much of an alpha for his own good.”

I dip my chin in agreement. “So where should we start with the tour?”

“I was going to let them play out here for a bit. The other kids will be out on their first recess soon. I figured Aurora and Kayne could introduce them to some.”

“That’s a great idea, Phoebe. Thank you,” Loukas says, out of breath from running after the girls.

I snuggle into his side.

“Did the girls wear you out?” I ask, hiding my chuckle.

“Those two are like little balls of energy,” he responds, putting his arm around me.

Over the next couple of hours, we watch from a safe distance as both kids make some new friends and take a tour of the academy. Despite still obviously being wary of the entire situation, even Zach makes friends with a couple of boys his age.

One’s a shifter from Axel’s sleuth, and the other is a witch. They fall into an easy conversation. Zach glances over at me, and I give him a little wave, happy that he’s beginning to enjoy himself.

“Who’s that?” I hear one of the boys ask, and I hold my breath. I am not sure how he will answer.

“She’s my dad’s mate, Pearl. She’s pretty cool,” Zach answers simply, and my smile gets even bigger. At least it was nothing negative.

Knowing that Zach is on the right path, I turn and glance back at Loukas, chuckling as he holds both Aurora and Amelia’s hands while they talk his ear off. I didn’t need to be worried about that one. I don't know if it’s because of Aurora’s presence or because she’s so young, but I don’t think she’s going to have very many issues adjusting.

“They’re waiting for you in Bree and Matt’s office,” Phoebe says as we approach the vampire section of the academy which is easily identified by the lack of natural light and the windows covered in metal panels.

I stop and turn.

“Zach, did you want to come with us, or did you want to go to class with your new friends?”

He looks between me and his new friends, biting his lip.

“Why don’t you go to class with them? Jake knows the way back here if you want to come join us later,” Phoebe supplies and I send her a grateful smile.

“Are you sure it’s okay?” he asks.

“Of course,” I respond, looking over at Loukas.

“Aurora and Kayne are going to take your sister to class too,” Loukas says. “I’m sure you guys can all walk together.”

Amelia doesn’t wait, letting go of Loukas’ hand, grabbing Aurora and Kayne, and skipping back in the direction we camefrom. Zach follows behind quickly, ready to protect his sister should she need it.

“Won’t they be in different classes? Amelia and Aurora, I mean,” Loukas asks Phoebe.

“Not normally, no. For the most part, they will still be in the same classes, learning the basics, but since Amelia has already shifted, she’s going to have to be in some of the more advanced shifter classes so she can get control over her shifts,” Phoebe says. “Would it be better for her if she had another avian shifter as a teacher?”

Loukas furrows his brows. “Probably. Do you have any avian shifter teachers?”

She shakes her head. “I was hoping that someone from your parliament would be interested.”

“I’m sure I can find someone,” he says with a smile, and I tug his hand toward Matt and Bree’s office now that the kids have disappeared down another hallway.
