I felt her body slam into mine, knocking us both to the ground.

And just like that, the switch flipped.

Buzzing like a thousand bees roared in my ears. My vision tunneled. I groaned as my stomach smacked the ground.

Bad little boys are punished.

Darkness. Pain. The circle of enlightenment.

Show me how perfect you bleed.

The buzzing filled my head until I couldn’t distinguish the past from the present.

Make it stop,I whimpered in my head.

Louder.Louder.LOUDER!

Kill the noise.

Screams filled my ears. Mine. Others. A little girl in the room next to mine.

“Kill the noise,” I murmured, feeling the shadows closing in and thetick, tick, tickthat always followed.

“Reaper?”

Devil’s voice sounded too far away, out of the house, traveling from a great distance.

I scrambled to my feet, desperate to escape.

The buzzing grew louder. My hands covered my ears, trying to drown the sound.

Kill the noise!

Manic shoved his lighter in front of my face, pulling me from the darkness as his thumb spun the wheel, igniting the flame. “See the light, Reaper?”

His distraction worked.

Blinking, I opened my eyes. My focus returned as my mind snapped back from the past. “Yes,” I replied calmly, ignoring the rush of adrenaline in my system.

Raiden nodded from his position at the end of the table. His concerned expression mirrored Devil’s.

Fuck. I hated it when this happened. The episodes always happened at the worst fucking time and never when I was alone.

“I’m not insane,” I announced to the room, hating I’d been exposed like this, vulnerable, weak.

“I know that,” Devil replied with conviction.

“No more than the rest of us,” Manic added with humor, closing the lighter. “Crazy is fun. Let’s embrace it.”

A smile twitched my lips. “I already did years ago.”

“Me too, brother.”

Chapter 7

“I’m not insane,” Reaper blurted, his crazed gaze unable to focus on the room, on anything but the noise in his head.

“I know that,” I promised.
