“Murder me in my sleep?” I offer.

She laughs. “I wouldn’t resort to violence.”

“I understand. It’s fine. And now that you bring it up, I’m not sure I wouldn’t pull my punches to protect your feelings. It’s probably best we don’t work together.”

She nods. “I’m so happy you’re home, Daisy.”

“I am too.” And I really mean it.

We head inside and find the others. Noah wraps an arm around me and pulls me tight into his side. He presses a kiss on my temple. “It’s so good to have you home,” he whispers in my ear.

A full-body shiver runs through me and I wish we were somewhere much more private. Will he always have this effect on me? I pop onto tiptoes and whisper in his ear. “I want to get you naked and have my way with you as soon as possible.”

His eyes heat and he moves me to stand in front of him, his hardness at my back. While we watch the other bands perform, he holds me there, kissing my neck and whispering dirty things in my ear.

By the time the bands have all played and it’s time for the awards ceremony, I’m practically burning alive.

“Hopefully, the judges will acknowledge our genius,” Sloane says as he joins our group, his brothers with him. They’ve been embroiled in a fierce game of darts while we’ve listened to the music.

“The only way there was genius in your performance,” Dani says from where she’s seated on Grant’s lap, “is if you were intending to make people want to rip their own ears off just to stop listening to you. In which case, mission accomplished.”

“Our band was much better,” Keating says. He’s got an arm around his wife, a baby in a carrier on his chest, and three little girls standing next to them.

“It was definitely much cuter.” Goldy turns to me. “Keating and his family played recorders and sang.”

“They aren’t even a real band.” Sloane scoffs.

Thankfully, the emcee gets back on stage and asks everyone to hush and listen up.

I don’t hold my breath to hear the winners announced. I’m holding my breath for the emcee to hurry so we can leave and I can ravish Noah.

It’s no surprise when we don’t place. There were far better bands here tonight who deserved to win more than we did. None of my sisters seem disappointed, but Sloane is whiny all the way home. Somehow, he convinces Noah to let him ride with us since his brothers are blaming him for their loss. Apparently, they feel he didn’t give one hundred percent to their performance.

When we get back to the house, I go straight to the barn, Noah by my side. Zephyr is in the pasture and she looks so good. Healthy and strong, her coat shiny.

“Jared said she’ll be ready to ride in another week,” Noah says.

Zephyr trots over to us and stretches her muzzle out for a pet or, more likely, a snack. I scratch between her ears and a thrill zings through me. “I can’t wait to ride you. We’re going to have so much fun together.”

Noah pulls me against him, my back to his front as I pet Zephyr. “I’d like to have some fun together,” he says, voice gruff.

“Really? You want to ride Zephyr? I can teach you.”

He chuckles, then he dips and lifts me, tossing me over his shoulder. “You think you’re funny, don’t you?”

“Oh, I do,” I say, as I hang upside down over his back. “And you’re going to pay for this.”

“I can’t wait.”

“Finally,” I say, as Noah closes his bedroom door on the chaos outside. We snuck in the back way so I didn’t haveto spend all night greeting the approximately twenty-thousand cousins who are crashing at our house this weekend.

He lowers me to my feet and kisses me hard, pulling at my clothes as he walks me back toward the bed. “The first time is going to be quick and hard,” he says as he leans away to pull my shirt over my head.

“The first time?”

“It’s been eighteen days. Do you know how many orgasms I’ve missed out on?”

“And we’re going to make up for all of them right now?”
