“You’ll have to take a drop of my blood,” I told him. “But only a drop.”

He considered this for a second, then shrugged. “I’ll just close my eyes. So long as I don’t see it, I won’t faint.”

Fuck, I loved this man and his contradictions so much. How he hated the sight of blood but loved me biting him. The way he tried to hide when he was upset yet was betrayed by his face every time. The man who never swore unless the situation truly demanded it. Who was the happiest soul on earth…unless his heart was broken.

That would never be the case again.

Kissing the ring on his finger, I looked at him solemnly. “Where do you want the bite, sunshine? This one won’t fade, so choose wisely.”

“Really?”

I stroked his face. “Is that okay?”

“You’re telling me I can wear your marks permanently? That everyone will look at me and know I belong to you? Yes. That’s very okay, Seb.”

I grinned at him. “In that case, we’d best put it somewhere obvious. How about here?”

I tapped his neck over his pulse point, the place I liked to bite him when I was buried inside him.

“Yes, please.”

“Always so polite,” I murmured. “I can’t wait until later. I’m going to see what it takes to make you lose that politeness.”

Matty shivered as he felt my fangs slide against his skin. “Probably not much. It’s been too long, Seb.”

That sadness at the time we’d missed because of my idiocy hit me once again. “I’m sorry, sunshine.”

“Don’t be sorry,” he said fiercely, touching my chin until I looked at him. “You’ve got to let it go now, Seb. We’re going into our future together. I’m not taking any past mistakes into it, and I don’t want you to either.”

“You’re right.” I exhaled, brushing a kiss against his lips. “Let’s leave the darkness in the past.”

“But not forget it,” Matty said, eyeing the vault meaningfully.

“No. Sure you don’t want to wait until we’re somewhere more romantic to do this?”

Matty raised a brow. “I mean…this feels romantic to me. We’re as close to your family as we can be. This is where you grew up, where you thought you’d make your mate your own. It feels right, to do it here.”

I swallowed hard. “I’m so glad it’s you, Matty. Even if I had to be lost for so long, I’m grateful for it because it led me to you.”

His answer was to go up on his toes and kiss me. I sank into the taste of him, the sweetness I could never get enough of.

I kissed along the line of his lips. Up along his cheekbone. Around the delicate shell of his ear.

I followed the line of him down to his neck and kissed the spot that would soon wear my mark. “Close your eyes, sunshine, and open your mouth. You need to take my blood at the same time as my bite.”

“Okay.” There was no hesitation. Just certainty tinged with excitement.

How did I get so lucky to find someone that not only wanted to be mated to me, but couldn’t wait to be?

I was going to spend eternity worshipping Matty exactly how he deserved.

Dipping my finger into my mouth, I snagged the tip of my finger with a fang. A drop of blood appeared, the skin beneath healing as rapidly as it’d been cut.

Lining up my fangs, I lifted my finger to his mouth.

His lips closed around my digit as I pierced his skin.

I unleashed my power as I drank, sending it flooding through Matty. The pleasure was there at the taste of him, but not in the sexual way it usually was.
