“What’s wrong with sitting here with you?”

“Nothing,” Reid says matter-of-factly. “But you might want to mention that when you get back home.”

“To Weston?”

“The very one. Though, I’m not sure if he’ll be able to handle you, Shorty. Your imagination is too big, and I think he’s lacking in more than hockey skills.”

I obviously wouldn’t know.

“I’ll worry about that,” I divulge, not wanting to think about sex at all right now. Not when there’s a hulk of a man who demolishes men as a career.

That shouldn’t be sexy.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

Gosh, dang it, Hollyn. Get a handle on your facial expression.

“You’re gonna have to be a little more specific than that,” I cajole evenly. “I always look this way.”

Reid is not deterred from calling me out when he says, “It’s how you look like you want to be naughty, but you’re too afraid to put your hand in the cookie jar.”

I tsk, blowing off his alternate meaning because he can’t mean that. Not from him, anyway.

Wow, this whole working-from-home thing really got you off your game, sis.

“I am the last one who’s afraid to put her hand in the cookie jar,” I retort. “I love cookies. I live for cookies, Reid. You can just call me the Cookie Monster while you’re at it.”

He grunts his response, obviously catching me dodging his one-time remark that isn’t filled with disdain and a sulky mood. If the man would’ve started like that, I would’ve been used to it.

But playful Reid, that’s as foreign to me as Italian.

The language, not the food.

The rest of the game goes off with a few more fights and the crowd feeding into every movement of the players. It’s like the whole arena moves together, bound by one love that happens to be hockey.

Something that Reid perfectly fits into without a doubt.

And me, I don’t really belong anywhere but on my couch with my favorite pizza.

REID

“So, are we not going to address the elephant in the room? You didn’t just bring a hot redhead to show us that you could.”

I was waiting for this conversation. We couldn’t just drink our beers and play pool like the plan was suddenly so laid out for me that it’d be chill as hell.

No, my boys got me out to see me, of course, but they’re curious as all hell as to why I’m waltzing around with a woman.

I don’t wander around with anyone.

Which was probably one of my fuck-ups for the night.

After the game, I took Hollyn to the locker room to meet the guys—mistake number one. It didn’t mean anything. I was just doing my due diligence and giving her an opportunity to go behind the scenes, see what goes on, and that’s it.

But my boys had other plans.

Big ones.

Ones that dragged me out here got a few beers into me, then decided they were going to address this so-called elephant in the room. I’m honestly surprised that no one recognized my ass from the stands, but if I were to sit closer to the bench where my team was, I was sure to be noticed. So, I put a hat on, brought Hollyn and acted like any other fan did, minus the constant yelling and screaming.
