“You know what I meant.”

“Obviously not if we’re talking about it.”

“Reid, be serious.” I lightly smack him in the chest. “You’re fine.”

“Fine?” He straightens his spine and loosens up his locked forearms around the car. “I’m sorry. Can you break that down for me?”

He’s being a pain in the ass, and he knows it. I’m not sure if it’s to distract me or if he feels insulted, but he needs to get over it. When he goes back to New Brunswick, he’ll have a whole arena cheering his name and women flaunting their posterboards with his name written all over them in glitter.

“Can you focus on the task at hand since you’re the one leading this expedition?”

Reid lifts his shoulders. “I’m just waiting for the moron to waltz out so I can make out with you. I’m fine.”

My eyes narrow. “The more you talk, the more annoying you’re becoming.”

“Did you want to start sooner?” Reid’s chest inches forward, and my exhale immediately catches. “I’m only here to serve my side of the bargain, Shorty. If you think it’d help you out, just let me know. I’d be happy to do that for you.”

His hazel eyes don’t falter from mine, and it takes everything in me not to look away. Reid’s stare is intense, to say the least. And I’m not entirely used to a man looking at me like he’s about to pounce any second.

I’m not used to being with a man this close at all.

I really need to get a life.

“I’m good,” I surmise evenly, proud of myself for keeping my voice light and solid. “But thank you.”

“Anytime.”

At that moment, the door to the ice arena opens up, and there’s only one person that it could be. Looking under Reid’s thick arm, Weston saunters out the back and through the employee parking lot that’s located behind the building.

And that’s when Reid cups the side of my face and steals my attention away.

“That him?”

I swallow quickly and nod. “Yes.”

“You sure you wanna pull this off for him?”

No.

However, I feel as though I’m too deep into this scenario now to back down now. I’ve only carved it out and told Reid that I want Weston and that I’d only be going against the tread I’ve already laid down.

If I abruptly change my mind, I’m going to look like a flake.

“Shorty…”

I force myself to bow my head because the outcome I want is so much different from it was before.

I’d like nothing more than for Reid to kiss me.

But I wish for him to hunger and want to kiss me. Not because he has to.

Not because we’re helping each other out.

Not because I’m not interested in him.

I am interested in Reid.

A little too much, actually.
