“Go home,” Weston carps out, thrusting his thumb over his shoulder. “And don’t bother coming back.”

Reid moves toward the direction of his car and chuckles amusingly.

Weston watches him go, and I do the same. And it’s not until he’s a good distance away that he turns back around and steps closer to me. “Are you okay?”

I wave a dismissive hand in the air because I don’t need his help.

For real.

“I’m fine,” I convey. “It was nothing.”

“That didn’t look like nothing. He had his tongue all the way down your throat and—”

“I’m completely aware. I was there.”

Weston blanches a bit of red and shifts his weight. “Damn, Hollyn…are you into him?”

My brows knit together. “What? No. He’s been so bored lately that he’s decided to…I dunno entertain himself.”

“By kissing you?”

I lift my whole face in a challenge. “Is that not something that could be remotely fun to do?”

Weston quickly shakes his head. “That’s not what I meant. I just thought—well…I’ve been thinking. I know that you’ve been hanging out a lot with him. I didn’t want to interfere—”

“With what?” I press, more irritated than curious. I’ve started to take notice that Reid’s comments about Weston never being around are valid.

For example, before tonight’s game, Reid was the one who gave the pep talk in the locker room. Weston was MIA and doing God knows what. Reid switched the kids in and off the ice.

He did everything.

So why I’m standing here with Weston instead of Reid or not going home…it doesn’t make sense anymore. Weston isn’t going to coach these kids. He’s going to be completely lost without Reid’s help, and I’m not a miracle worker.

“I was going to ask you out, actually,” Weston professes, running his fingers through his blond hair. “I just…didn’t know how because we work together. I was going to wait until after the season, but…I have to know, are you going to be seeing him?”

I could make this easy.

I could tell him no and let him continue on with whatever Weston was going to say.

Yet, I’m irritated.

“I’m not sure what you’re getting at, Weston. I just saw you flirting the whole game with two moms and—”

“I wasn’t flirting,” he argues. “I’m looking to do a camp for the boys, and we’re gonna need money for that. I was…trying to see if I could build rapport so most of the boys would be able to come.”

Oh.

“Really?” I can’t stop the disbelief in my tone when I blurt it out, and Weston actually blushes a bit.

“Yeah, umm…that’s what I’ve been working on. I didn’t realize finding a place would be so hard. Especially with the size of the group we have and the costs. I thought it’d be really special to have these kids become a real team and grow up together. Maybe they can follow each other from team to team and—”

“That’s amazing Weston. Honestly, I…” Judged the crap out of you while you were being so amazing. “The boys will love it.”

“Think so?” I’ve never seen Weston nervous, and it’s endearing. Here I was, thinking about everything Reid had said, and it was the exact opposite.

I was right.

I smile. “Know so.”
