Pulling out my cell phone, I download the app and start the process of figuring it out when a text message pops overhead, and Reid’s name appears like a godsend.

REID: How’s the date going, Shorty?

I immediately abandon the app and begin typing out my message.

HOLLYN: You were right. I was completely wrong.

REID: I didn’t want to be.

REID: Don’t be too hard on yourself.

HOLLYN: I am, though. What a waste of time.

REID: It doesn’t have to be. Look up.

I instantly do as he asks, finding a couple sitting across from each other and deeply engrossed in their conversation. They’re cute and appear in love, which only makes my stomach twist a little bit.

My phone buzzes again in my hand.

REID: More to your right, Shorty. Further back. By the bar.

My eyes narrow and focus, sifting through waitresses and people bustling around when I see Reid standing along the edge of the bar, staring at me like he’s been waiting for me to find him.

Well, he has.

But what in the world is he doing here?

HOLLYN: You frequent this bar after practice?

REID: First time.

HOLLYN: Lucky coincidence?

REID: Not at all.

REID: I’m here for you.

I stare at his words, and my lips part in shock and absolute chaos.

He’s here for me.

I’ve been focused on Weston where I should’ve laid my attention somewhere else, but where would that have gotten me? Reid isn’t staying here. He isn’t from here. And New Brunswick is a good five-hour drive away.

HOLLYN: That was really sweet, Reid. Thank you.

REID: Nothing sweet about it, Shorty. I’m your bitch in this endeavor.

HOLLYN: That didn’t include hovering over my date, sir.

REID: I knew it was going to go sideways. So I may as well have saved you after you’ve had enough.

REID: You look hot, by the way.

My cheeks burn red, and I am so glad I’m looking down so that he can’t see the effect he just caused on me.

HOLLYN: Thank you.

REID: So, how long are you gonna make me wait until you come see me?
