“But I—you’re going to get hounded by the press.”
“I always get hounded by the press. But I’ll deal with that as it comes. I’m not worried about it. However, I will say I don’t want you around Weston anymore.”
“I quit,” she blurts out, surprising the hell out of me. “I was so mad and hurt…I feel bad now.”
“Why?”
“Those kids need help.”
“It means that much to you?” She bobs her head. “I think I have an idea.”
“What?”
“The boys owe me a few favors. The ones that sit on the bench need some shit to do, so…they’re going to do it.”
“They’re just going to go out there and coach the boys?” I nod. “Weston will never allow it.”
“Weston needs to be fired.”
“I think we should allow the parents to see how much of an asset he’s not, and then it’ll be easier to slip in there.”
“If that’s what you want.”
Hollyn bites the inside of her bottom lip. “I think it’ll really open up a new wave for that team. For kids to actually learn and want to be involved in something.”
“That a new goal of yours now?”
She smirks and rolls her eyes. “I need to keep my hockey knowledge up somehow.”
“You gonna coach?”
“God, no,” she laughs. “That would never work.”
“Why not?”
“Because how will I see you play? Is this you already trying to get away from me?”
This time, I roll my eyes. “It was your idea. But, no…I just want Weston out of the way. I’ll bring the kids to a game. I’m sure they miss me.”
Hollyn shakes her head with a smile. “Now you’re getting a big head.”
“Not yet. You haven’t kissed me yet to show me how much you missed me.”
She scoffs. “I didn’t miss you.”
“Damn, Shorty,” I rebuke softly as I lean closer. “And here I was already missing the shit out of you when I was watching that game.”
“You did not.”
“I sure as fuck did. I was thinking about you, and you manifested.”
“You were thinking about me?” Hollyn sounds skeptical and unbelieving that I would be.
“Amongst other things.” She blushes, and the color on her is sheer perfection. “Let me get you out of here, and I’ll show you, Shorty.”
“Are we really doing this?”
“We’re really doing this.”
