“Oh, boy,” I chuckle with a shake of my head as I smile up at him. “Now that you’ve won the championship, you want another nickname. I’m not calling you anything weird.”

He lifts his shoulders. “I think something more fitting would do.”

“Like?” I raise my brows as he falls to one knee in front of me, causing my brows to clench in response to what the hell he is actually doing right now in front of all these people.

“Like, husband,” he replies flatly, reaching behind him and grabbing a black velvet box from…somewhere. “I love you, baby. Will you marry me?”

“What?”

The question doesn’t make it all the way to my rationality because this doesn’t make any sense.

This is the man who didn’t want to coach kids.

This is the guy who didn’t want to have any strings attached or give any time to anyone else because he didn’t think he’d have time.

“You heard me right,” Reid claims, cracking the lid open to the small box and revealing the most beautiful diamond ring I’ve ever seen. “I said you were mine. Let’s make it official. That way, if someone fucks with you, I can have more backup on kicking their ass.”

“Reid,” I mutter, my heart in my stomach. “Are…you sure?”

“I’ve been sure since before you came to the arena, bitching at me for leaving you naked in my bed that morning. I knew you were going to shift shit for me. I just didn’t know how much. And now I want to share everything with you. I want you to be with me forever.”

I drop to my haunches and wrap my arms around his waist, colliding a little harder than intended into his body and almost sending him to his ass. “You’re insane.”

“I told you that I was crazy for you, girl.”

Removing my cheek from his chest, I meet those enticing hazel eyes. “I’m not going anywhere. You know you don’t have to marry me.”

“I want to marry you.”

“But that means I get half your shit.”

“So?”

Okay, hit harder.

“I could make you look bad on your team if I do something stupid.”

He perks a brow. “I can do that all by myself. Coach loves you. You’ve kept me in line, and I haven’t hit anyone that hard since my suspension.”

“You know what forever means, right?”

Reid laughs and shakes his head a bit. “Shorty, fucking answer my question, for fuck’s sake. There’s a standing bet on how long it was going to take for you to give me a response.”

I glowered over his shoulder at the guys on his squad, all smirking and laughing because they’d seen and heard everything.

“You should be ashamed of yourselves.”

“For what?” Wells claims with a smug smile. “You’re still talking, and I’m winning.” Graham, who is standing next to him, hits him in the chest. “Oh, for God’s sake, let them have their moment, Wells!”

I narrow my eyes on him for extra emphasis before I swing my gaze back to Reid, softening it a bit. “How long was your bet?”

“Two seconds.”

I literally love and hate this man.

“So, you were so confident that I’d say yes?” I press with a lifted expression. “How cocky of you.”

“It doesn’t matter if you do or not,” Reid claims. “It’s going to happen.”
