He shakes his head. “Can you do me a favour, Tank? I need you to give her a message.”

“So you’re all in contact with her, huh?”

“Not really. Just that night we visited her in the hospital.”

“Yeah, you didn't really hang around to see the aftermath of that departure. She certainly knows how to make an exit.”

He chuckles, but there's no humour in it. “Yeah, you have no idea. She’s always been… shall we say… creative?”

“Dude, she cut off her own tattoos as her resignation and impending divorce.”

“Like I say, creative.”

“It certainly got her point across, so what do you need me to tell her?”

“Can you give her this?” He hands me a letter. “You need to make sure no one follows you. You need to make sure she’s safe, Tank. She’s gonna need someone in her corner when shit goes sideways, and it will. She’ll need to know no matter what, she can turn to you, Priest and Dozer. She has no one else at the club. If she makes it out of this alive, she’s gonna be destroyed.”

“Cade, what the fuck’s going on? You’re all talking about impending doom and devastation. What’s the alternative? What’s the good side to aim for?”

“Tank, that is the good side. The bad is she’s dead.”

“So you're telling me she either ends up a shell or dead? Nothing else?”

“Pretty much.” He grabs the handle to step out. “Just make sure no one follows you. For her to do what she needs to, she needs time. She’s doing this to protect you all from him.”

“Cade? Who’s she protecting us from?”

“She'll either tell you or she won't. Either way, that's for her to decide.”

He steps out of the truck as Dane comes back out of the house.

“Thanks, Tank. Here, give her this and tell her I miss her.”

“Dane, please tell me. Can I save her?”

He shakes his head. “No one can. Tell her I love her, okay?”

I nod as he closes the door. Fuck, what the hell is going on? These guys are always so confident; they all have an aura around them, they have confidence and big dick energy on steroids, and Ray is that ramped up; she’s got the biggest dick of all. They're all such a force, but seeing them like this doesn't fill me with confidence for a best-case scenario. Now, all I'm feeling is my sister’s gonna die, and no one can do anything to stop it. I can't lose her, and I can't let Skye lose her either. She’s never had a real family till Ray saved her. It will destroy my new family if anything happens to her, but I also know I can't tell my brothers. I have to keep the meeting tomorrow a secret from everyone.

I've booked Skye an appointment at the clinic, so we're going there first as a cover in case we're followed. I just need to stay vigilant. It's a fair drive to meet Ray, so before heading back to the club, I head to Walmart, get snacks, blankets, pillows and drinks and hide it all in the back of the truck. That way, no one will be suspicious when we leave. Fuck knows what a mess we’re gonna find when we finally make it. Ray… Fuck, I hope she’s okay.

Waking up, I shower and then wake Skye. My life has changed so much over the last year. I’ve met the most amazing women. I gained a sister—well, three really, Ray, Demi and Scar—I found the love of my life, the reason for my heart to beat in Skye and Bean. I can't believe I’m gonna be a father. I can't wait to meet my little boy, and I’m scared Ray’s gonna miss it. We’re not that far away now. Skye is glowing, and he'll be here in a couple of months. I've never been so ready for anything as I am to meet this little boy.

While I'm making breakfast, Skye steps up behind me, wrapping her arms around my waist, and I chuckle. She smiles and kisses my back. “You think it's funny, do you?”

“I think it's adorably funny.” I turn off the stove and turn in her arms, pulling her to my front. I always cook her breakfast shirtless. She always slides in behind me, wraps her arms around me, and kisses my back, but recently, her hands barely reach, resting on my sides when she crushes our bump against me. I kiss her forehead, “How are you feeling?”

“Hungry, nervous?” She grins up at me.

“Come on then, let's get this day started.” We eat breakfast and head out. I've kept myself distant from the boys so as not to arouse suspicion, and as we head past the clubhouse, Steel is just heading across from the apartment.

As I slow, Skye glances at me. “What the hell are you doing? Keep going.”

“Skye, chill. If I don't stop, he will think something’s wrong. Just relax, okay?”

Slowing and pulling to a stop, I roll my window down. “Hey, guys, where you off to so early?” Steel leans in the cab.

“Clinic, Skye’s got an appointment, then we're off looking for baby stuff, gonna make a day of it. What you up to?”
