“How many men have you got?”

He grins. “Like I’m gonna share that with you.”

I shrug. “Your funeral if we don’t pull it off. There's about forty people on that base at any time, give or take.”

“So we take fifty.”

I nod. “Do you have a laptop?”

He slides it out of the draw and fires it up. “I’m fucking watching you, little sister!”

I grin as I start typing and pull up a map. He’s come around to stand behind me, clearly not trusting me. Smart move, big brother. I’m gonna play you like a fucking fiddle. Hold on tight.

“This is the base.” I list the buildings and what they hold. It’s next to nothing, really. I know we’ve already moved all our good stuff; the stuff left is shit, and we can afford to lose. The people there are skeleton staff, at best. They’re not even proper Armoury. We've moved everything according to the order we're gonna hit. “If we hit at 3 a.m. there will be less people around. The main shifts have already left, and the next ones won't be arriving for hours. We can breach with minimal contact, therefore minimal casualties.”

“How soon before we can hit?”

“I think maybe three days, four at most.”

“I'll put a team together. We’ll set up a meeting for the rundown in two days. You'll have the specifics ready for then!”

It's not a question; it's an order, and I nod. “I will need access to the laptop and a printer. Also, I will need some background on the teams so I can see who to use where.”

“You can use the laptop while I'm in the room, same as the printer, that's it, you don’t get any information until the… mission.”

“Seriously? How the fuck am I supposed to put all this together when I don’t know what skills I’m working with?”

“You don’t need to know skills. You will have fifty bodies. Use them as you see fit.”

“Bas—”

As my head whips to the side and I wince, “I fucking warned you. Do. Not. Fucking. Call. Me. That!”

“Shit B—fuck, Dante, quit with the fucking hitting, yeah? It's gonna take some getting used to. I’m fucking trying, okay?”

“Just get fucking on with it. You’ve got an hour now, then you can come back tomorrow at 11 a.m.”

“Fine!” God, he’s a bigger arsehole than I remember. I much preferred him when he was fucking dead.

After an hour, I’ve done as much as I can right now. I need to get him to trust me, and I need five minutes alone with his laptop to download the software Dane gave me, which is currently stuffed somewhere I’d rather not fucking say, but it’s uncomfortable as fuck and pinchy.

I leave for the night and head back to the squat I’m staying in. As I throw myself down on the sofa, I let out a frustrated sigh. “Fuck.” I yell as I throw a cushion across the room.

I want to be at home. I want to be in bed with my husband, with his dick buried as far inside me as humanly possible. I don’t care about the fucking doctor. I totally understand the position he was in, and although it hurts, I love him more than that. I never thought I would forgive him, but I just feel so emotional at the minute. I don’t know what the fuck’s going on. All I wanna do is cry, fuck and kill my brother. I can’t do any of those things. It's been nearly two months since I’ve seen Steel, and I’m agitated, to say the least. My skin’s itching to be touched. I’m so fucking grumpy.

I stalk to the freezer, grab the ice cream and a spoon, and head back to the sofa. Flopping down, I rest the ice cream on my belly. Fuck, I’ve been overdoing the ice cream, but fuck it, there’s only so much ice cream a girl can eat, and I ain’t there yet. But I’m horny and irritated at best. There’s also only so many times you can violate a cucumber before you question your sanity and life choices. At this rate, I’m gonna break into home and fuck my ex-husband. Well, I suppose still-husband, because if I don’t get laid soon, I’m gonna end up the size of a house. But for now, I recline with my new boyfriends, Ben and Jerry. Fuck my life.

It's the night of the raid, and we’re at the club gearing up. The team turned up an hour ago, and I went through what was needed. We have thirty-seven, and I was working on fifty, so I’m having to think on my feet. I've managed to chat with at least half of the men here, and honestly, they aren't anything other than street rats. They have no training, and the majority of them are questionable as people. Morally grey is an understatement, so I will be more than happy to put bullets in a few of them tonight. I can't help but wonder if Bas—Dante—has spread himself thin with so few turning up or if he's luring me into a false sense of security, making me think he's not got the support. The jury’s still out on that one.

I split the men into four teams: three teams of nine and one team of ten. Dante refuses to lead a team that I’m not on, so I sort through the team leaders and give them their orders while Dante waits and watches. He's letting me run with this, but I can see he’s testing me, so I must be extremely careful and prove myself.

As we roll out and pull up at the base, I send the men to their positions. Most of them are outside the fence, and they're here just to raid the base after. Our team of ten are the ones going in.

Pulling out my bolt cutters, I turn to the men at my back. “Ready?” They nod as Dante stands at the back. My eyes meet his, and he just stares. “Ready, big brother?”

He nods, and I make the first snip, tripping the silent alarm that will warn everyone we’re coming. Obviously, Dante doesn't know that. All the people here are sporting bulletproof vests with blood packs attached. We already agreed on the tactics for the attacks. When I talked to the men beforehand, I told them to aim for the largest mass, body shots only when they shoot, and our people are instructed to go down and play dead, and we will hopefully get out of this unscathed.

Pushing through the fence, I gesture for the guys to follow me. There are mines around the perimeter. Oops, I may have forgotten to mention that little gem. I smile to myself as I know the telltale signs of where they are. Before we get to the edge, two of the guys trip the mines and blow up, skittering us across the ground.
