“Ray, what do you need?”

“The boys are coming to work for me. I need a house or somewhere big enough for them all. I need some land for training. It needs to be private and big enough to build on if we can't have what we want. I need it to be self-sufficient, solar panels or space to build them.”

“Okay, pack up then. I have just the place. It needs some work, but it's yours, you can have it. Just come back with me now.”

“And what if I don't?”

I lean back and cross my arms. “I will stay till you do.”

“Fuck.” She turns to look at them all, and they shrug. I don't know which ones which other than Rook and Queen as they’re with Dane.

“We will come and have a look at the place, and then we will decide. If I choose to leave, then you have to let me go till I’m ready to come back on my own, okay?”

“Deal.” I smile. Come on, let's go.

“No, we go in the morning. There are plenty of rooms here. Hunker down, and we'll go tomorrow.”

“Ray.”

“Don’t test my fucking patience, Ares. I swear to Hades, you got off fucking lightly.”

I nod. “Okay, let's get some sleep, and then we can head out tomorrow.”

“This way,” one of them says as he pushes through the door. “Well, you coming or not?” He pushes through and lets the door spring back into place. As he shows the guys to the rooms, he steps into the room for me, and I follow him in. He turns and closes the door. “What the fuck are you playing at?”

I square my shoulders. “I’m getting my sister back home by any fucking means necessary, and if that means playing nice with you lot, I will for now. But don’t fucking cross me or her. I will destroy each and every one of you.”

He smirks. “Back at ya, bitch!” he says as he storms out of the room.

Ray

We pull up in a convoy back at the club and slide out. Dane storms up to the apartment, and Dice sighs, glaring at Ares, who just shrugs. I had to stop Dane from going to The Armoury and grabbing his gun so he could shoot Ares this morning, and I’m kind of on Dane’s side with this one. But if this gets me what I want, then so be it.

“So where are we going?”

Ares points up the lane behind the clubhouse. “You've seen the old compound, military base, doomsday prepper paradise, whatever you want to call it.”

“Yeah.” I look at him, confused.

“It's yours, theirs, whatever, if you want it, it's yours. It's closed-in, large enough for building on, room for training, self-sufficient or could be. Give me a second.” He wanders around to the garage and comes back with bolt cutters. “There must be an entrance somewhere, but we've never found it, so knock yourselves out. Be careful. We don’t know what’s in there. We've always just left it well alone.”

He tosses the cutters to King. “I'll be in the clubhouse when you're ready to talk.” Then they turn and walk away.

I climb in the driver's seat, wince, and get back out. Fucking hell! “Come on, let's go look.” climbing back in the passenger side.

Rook drives up there, we do a perimeter check, and the boys fan out, trying to find an entrance. We find the best position for the main entrance and cut a hole, I step through. “Fuck, this place is massive!” King grins.

We've driven between the gym and the barn and come in to the right of the buildings. There are three massive aircraft-like hangars; a large fence surrounds it all, almost eight feet, with rusty razor wire circling all through the top. As we all push through the fence, you can see a lake, and the three massive aircraft-like hangars have eight large barracks, maybe lodges. There’s a large open space between the buildings and the lake. As we push inside the nearest hangar, it's just an open storage area, totally empty apart from debris, but the bones look good from here anyway. We step into the middle one. This one has a trap door on the floor right in the centre of the thing.

“Let's come back to that!” I say as we head to the next one. This one is like our stores back at the base, racking everywhere with stockpiled tins and rations, bottled water, clothing, and blankets. The guy before was probably a doomsday prepper. It's a shame everything's rubbish and out of date, but the racking’s good and it would make a good stores. There is also a row of offices, but again, we will venture into them later when I know roughly what we have.

Heading to the barracks, the first six have a large open room with ten bunk beds on each side with a large bathroom and toilet area at one end. The other two have a kitchen on one end and tables and bench seating. It's set out like our armoury summer camps, very military base style, and then there's the lake.

“Well, boys, what do you think?”

“We could use the first one for vehicle storage. The trap door may be a good gun store. We will need further investigation. The last hangar goes without saying that it'll be the stores. The six barracks with plumbing could be an apartment each, the last two, one could be a communal room, and the other could be a tech room. That way, Dane could work from here, too. It will need securing and a lot of work, so it depends on what it's gonna cost,” King says, and we all nod.

“Ares will give us this for me and the babies to stay. I know that's what he's thinking.” I shake my head. “I just don't know if I can live in that apartment, but I also don't know if I can be away from it. That's all I have left of him till these guys make an appearance.”
