I walked out of the office so happy, while occasionally holding my stomach. I was thinking of ways to tell Jason and hoped he would be happy since we haven’t discussed kids yet. I decided to go back home because I was tired and wanted to fix a romantic dinner to tell Jason about the news. I called him and told him that I was home, and we would have a nice dinner tonight, so don’t work late. He sounded happy when I talked to him. I know after we talked yesterday and had multiple rounds of sex, he was still nervous about his family business and figuring out did he want to take over or not.

I got up from my mini nap and started to get the dinner ready. I wanted it to be done before Jason got home. I decided I would sit us down at dinner, then when dessert came out, so would the ultrasound picture of our baby. I hoped he would be as happy as I am.

I hummed the baby a lullaby while rubbing my stomach and cooking. I took out the ultrasound picture and put it on the table. I would remove it before we had dinner, then bring it back out during desert. I got so excited just thinking about it.

After I got done cooking, I was about to put on something cute when I heard my doorbell ring. I wondered who it could be since I wasn’t expecting visitors. I forgot to check the peephole and wished I did when I opened the door to see a rough looking Craig. Before I could react, he held a cloth on my face, and I only saw darkness.

CHAPTER 18

Iwoke up on a bed that I wasn’t familiar with and realized that one of my hands was chained to the bedpost. I was frightened as I looked around the dimly lit room that only had a small table, chair, and bed in it. I tried to break it free by yanking my hand away from the bedpost, but it wouldn’t budge, all it did hurt my wrist. I quickly remembered what happened, and instantly put my hand on my stomach.

I whispered, “Please be fine, baby.” I heard the door opening and saw Craig limping towards me.

He cut the light on and said, “Wake up, sleepy head.”

My eyes had to adjust to the lights before I could register what he said. I glared at him without saying anything. I removed my hand from my stomach because I didn’t want him to find out I was pregnant.

He sat on the bed next to me. “I missed you. I’m so glad you are back here with me.”

I looked at him confused and said, “Why am I here, Craig? Just let me go and I will forget this ever happened.”

He interrupted me, saying, “No. You are mine and are meant to be with me. Till death do us part.” He looked and sounded unhinged. He slid closer to me and put his hand on my cheek. I jerked away from his touch. He got up and left the room.

I sat there, dumbfounded. Once I realized the severity of the situation, I began to cry for me and my baby. I just hope that whatever time it was that Jason would be home by now and he would know who took me.

JASON

I was happy to hear from Dawn, and she seemed to be in a better mood. She told me to come home right after work for a romantic dinner. I was waiting for the clock to strike 5 p.m. so I could leave. Once I saw it was 4:30, I told my receptionist I was leaving early, and she should too. I walked out smiling as I made my way home.

Pulling into the yard, I noticed the front door was open. Worry instantly came over me as I jumped out of my car and went inside, screaming her name.

I found a letter on the living room table saying, “She has always been mine.”

I automatically knew it was Craig, and I knew she wouldn’t have gone away so easily. I called my security team, told them what happened, and said I would meet them at Craig’s place. I also called Darius because he should know about it.

He was beyond pissed and said he would meet me at Craig’s place. I was running off pure adrenaline and fear for Dawn’s safety as we went to his house and broke down his door. His place was empty and looked empty for a long time. I told my guys to go out and look for my girl. Darius told me he would call the cops, but I stopped him. I told him for me to handle this how I needed to, I couldn’t involve the cops. I know he wanted to get his sister back as much as me, so he agreed.

I know it’s crazy to say no cops, but for what I have to do, the cops would only hinder me.

The guy who paid Craig a visit on my behalf came to me and said, “Sir, Craig has to have help because he can barely walk and there is no way he would be able to take her by himself.”

I nodded, my mind reeling. Who would help Craig? I even asked Darius, but we both couldn’t think of anyone who would risk helping him. Knowing what I had to do to find her, I told Darius I have to go speak to my father and then I would touch basis with him. He told me he would go with me because he needs to be with me every step of the way for his sister. I understood him.

We went to my parents’ house, and I walked straight to Dad’s office. He was talking to my cousin about something, and I told my cousin he had to leave. He rubbed his hand through his black hair before mumbling something I couldn’t make out. He looked at me funny with his beady black eyes, but left, anyway. Darius stood in the back corner while I told Dad about how Craig kidnapped Dawn, but he had to have help because he could barely walk.

Dad, Darius, and I tried to figure out who would help him after everything he put her through.

Dad asked, “What are you going to do when you find them?

I smirked. “Kill Craig and anybody who helped him.”

I meant every word, too. Darius looked surprised because he had never seen this side of me.

“Why is it that Craig can barely walk?” Darius asked. “Last time I saw him, he was walking fine, but I keep hearing you and your people say he can barely walk.”

I forgot I didn’t tell him what happened to Craig after he tried to force himself on Dawn. “I had him roughed up good—real good—to the point that he would always have to walk with a limp.” He just shook his head in understanding.

“Dad, get your people to help look for her too,” I told him. With my people and his people looking, hopefully she could be found sooner.
