No, I thought to myself, I have to seize this moment.

So I rushed down and back into the street and ran as fast as I could in the direction I watched him leave. As I turned the corner, there he was in the distance.

I watched as Zorak walked proudly along the street, his long, graceful limbs carrying him swiftly away. My heart raced in my chest, a mixture of fear and exhilaration. I knew that I couldn’t let this opportunity slip away. We had just shared an intense moment, and I wasn’t about to let that connection fade.

“Zorak!” As I sprinted after him, I called out, my usually reserved nature cast aside. My lungs burned from the effort, but I refused to give up. The streets were teeming with people, some of them casting curious glances my way as I dashed past them. I didn’t care. All that mattered was catching up to Zorak.

I rounded the corner and saw Zorak climb into a hover cab. The door slid shut just as I reached it, and panic gripped me. I couldn’t lose him now. Adrenaline pushing me forward, I flagged down another hover cab and jumped inside.

“Follow that cab!” I gasped, feeling like a character in a cheesy movie. But this was real life, and the stakes felt higher than ever.

The hover cab driver, a grizzled old man with a cybernetic eye, nodded in understanding. “Hold on tight,” he warned as the cab lifted off the ground. We weaved through the bustling city traffic, me gripping the edge of my seat as we pursued Zorak’s cab.

“Please don’t lose him,” I told the driver, and myself, my nerves making it impossible to keep quiet. The driver shrugged, his focus on navigating the maze of hover cars.

“Never let the good ones get away,” he said. “Even if it means chasing them around town in a cab.” He chuckled.

“I don’t intend to,” I murmured, surprised at my admission. Zorak had always seemed so foolish, a joke, so different from me. But after the attack, when he’d risked his safety to protect me and then offered to help someone in pain, I couldn’t help but see him in a new light.

“Here’s hopin’ it all works out for ya,” the driver said, his gruff voice filled with sincerity.

“Thank you,” I replied, my heart swelling with gratitude. Even though our worlds were light-years apart, something about Zorak drew me to him like a moth to a flame. As we chased his hover cab through the city, I knew I wouldn’t let him slip through my fingers again.

Suddenly, the hover cab jolted to a halt, throwing me forward in my seat. I looked around to see that we were stuck in a traffic jam, a sea of colorful vehicles suspended mid-air.

“Damn it,” the driver muttered, slamming his fist on the dashboard.

As we resumed our pursuit, I couldn’t help but wonder where Zorak was going and what he was up to.

“Oh, wait,” the cab driver said. “He’s on the move again.”

“Great, let’s go!” I belted out. And off we went through the busy city traffic, my heart pounding excitedly.

When we finally caught up to Zorak, I peered out of the window to see him standing in front of a small apartment. My breath caught as I watched him hand over a bag of groceries to a woman holding a baby, tears streaming down her face. Then he raised his hand to hers and I knew he was transferring credits to her. Then it all fell into place.

“Is this... the mugger’s family?” I whispered, piecing together the puzzle.

“The what?” the driver said softly.

“How beautiful,” I said out loud.

The driver turned and looked at me. “Lady, what kind of drugs are you on?”

I looked at him. “Listen, it’s been a night.”

As I stepped out of the cab, my heart swelled with admiration for Zorak. It was then that I knew I needed to be close to him, to understand him better – and to let him know just how much his actions had affected me.

“Wait here,” I said to the driver before approaching Zorak.

“If you’re paying, I’m waiting.” the driver said, reaching into his jacket and pulling out a huge sandwich, which he took a large bite from.

I approached Zorak, trying to keep my voice steady despite my emotions. “Hey,” I called out, catching his attention as he finished speaking with the woman and turned away.

“Vanessa?” He looked genuinely surprised to see me there. “What are you doing here?”

“Never mind that,” I waved off his question. “I saw what you did.”

“I made a promise,” he replied.
