Kian was a doting, hands-on father when not occupied with sheriff duties. He insisted on helping with late night feedings and diaper changes. His protective devotion to Leila melted my heart. I knew he still grieved his own father’s loss, and was determined to savor each precious moment with his child.

At night, after Leila finally drifted off, we would sit outside gazing up at the dazzling stars together. I would nestle close and listen contentedly as Kian spoke of the future, spinning beautiful dreams for our family.

“I will teach her to hunt and track through the valley forests. She’ll tame her first sirocco by age five, just as I did,” he mused one evening.

I smiled. “And maybe I’ll teach her to pilot a starship. She’ll soar between planets one day.”

He laughed. “Perhaps so. Our daughter can be anything she wishes.”

Kian pulled me tighter then, nuzzling into my hair. “I never dared hope I would find such happiness as I have with you and Leila. My life is truly blessed.”

My throat tightened with emotion. I cradled his face in my hands. “I love you, Kian. Being here with you and our child...this is all I’ll ever need.”

We kissed tenderly beneath the moons’ soft glow. Tomorrow would bring its own joys and trials, but in that moment, everything was perfect.

I had finally found where I belonged.
