I turn and walk outside, stalking to my car and pulling all my belongings out.

“She can’t stay here,” Bar announces as he rushes out of the cottage. He looks around, almost frantic.

I jerk my head around. “Like fuck.”

Gold has just done a circuit and paused right where Phil was standing. His eyes lift to mine, sparkling with rage. “Who was here?”

I press my lips together and glance at Bar.

“Bad people,” Bar bounces to Gold, who refuses to break the stare off he’s having with me. “She might get hurt. They threatened her and me. Gold, they’re bad people!”

I gape at the open manipulation he’s trying to pull. My omega is driving his alpha into a murderous rage. And it’s working. Gold is shutting down. His fists flex, and then he grows still. Dangerously still.

“She’s not our problem.” Gold exhales and grabs Bar’s wrist. “Let's go.”

Bar pouts. “Then I’m staying here. With her.”

Jet snickers, rocking back on his heels and leaning on the door frame. “Sounds like a great idea!”

I can’t believe this is happening. For once, Gold and I are both on the same side of the argument.

“No, you’re not.” He growls.

“No way!” I snap at the same time.

“I’m not leaving. It’s too dangerous for her to be alone.” Barren looks at me and narrows his eyes. “I don’t trust those people, Gold, please. They were bad. They want to hurt her. They said awful things to her. Please, I can’t bear it.”

Gold’s nostrils flare, and I know Bar’s winning. He’s lost in his alpha instincts, eliminating the threat and making his omega safe and happy is now his only goal.

I’m stunned by the sincere panic and anxiety in his voice. I glance at Gold, trying to glean a direction I should take. I don’t know what to do now.

He keeps his eyes on me. I can see him rapidly going through his options and realising he really only has one pathway out of this.

He comes to the same conclusion I do.

There is no choice. I’m not staying here. I slam the back door of my car and stomp into the house.

“Where are you going?” Bar shouts.

“To get my work stuff. If I’m going to be at your house, I may as well be useful.”

Bar beams at me, and Jet snickers. I ignore them both. Gold growls, and we exchange a hostile glare with each other.

I enter the bathroom and pause. It’s trashed. There’s mud everywhere and…is that shit I smell? The mirror is shattered like someone hurled a fist into it.

Would my ex pack behave like this? I don’t know; I thought I knew them, but I guess I didn’t.

I look at the mess, at the sheer rage and violence, and walk out. It’s a problem for tomorrow.

I stare at the manor and resist the urge to growl and throw my bag across the lawn. I don’t want to be here. But I’m not five years old running around on Gran’s lawn, either. I will control my temper.

And it’s got nothing to do with the blow off you got from a certain alpha this morning? I find myself growling under my breath and side step the smiling alpha who eases up beside me. You got your feelings hurt and ran away, face it.

“You all right, princess?”
