“Hi. I’m Acton.” Ah, a name to a face. He reaches out, tugs the box free from my grip, turns, and walks away.

I exhale slowly and look at Jet. He’s silently laughing.

“Don’t see people often, do you?” He teases.

“I don’t see people like him often,” I say slowly.

He shakes his head. “Come on, you’ve met three of the zoo. I can’t wait for you to meet the others.”

I already know one of whom I’m going to meet. The omega.

I almost weep at the torture that’s ahead of me. I am stone. I am a rock. I will not react to their omega. I will pretend indifference.

I follow Jet as he leads me through the house. We stop on one side of a door. I can hear people talking on the other side. A fleeting thought rushes through my mind. I could leave right now, just turn and run. No one could stop me. But I can’t look away, I can’t force myself to turn away.

I want to see him again. Just see him. That’s all.

My palms are sweaty, so I wipe them on my jeans and remind myself I am the wolf. Jet opens the door. I walk in, spot the omega, rake him over with one hungry look, and then force myself to look away. Harder than I expected, a hundred thousand times harder. His scent is everywhere, his hair is damp, the shirt he’s wearing outlines his chest. My mouth waters, and I exhale slowly through my nose as I fight for control.

I find the other Alpha, and everything in me, all the attraction for the omega, all the fear, Taylor, Jet, Acton, the last fourteen years just crumbles and dies. He stands only in profile, but it’s enough. I know instantly who he is. My heart knows this man.

Tall and golden and perfect. His hair hangs to his shoulders, his eyes will be liquid gold. His skin bronzed. He smells like a whiskey that I’ve never been able to find and tastes even better. He is everything an Alpha should be. Everything I shouldn’t be.

“Gold?” My voice comes out a hoarse whisper, but it’s loud enough to attract his attention. I wish I hadn’t spoken.

He whirls around. “Red?”

I’m on a ship that’s crashing through stormy seas, and I can’t get my feet under me. I pull on everything I’ve learned, every shred of boss bitch I have, cock my hip, place my hand on it, and smile calmly, hoping he doesn’t see straight through me. Hope he doesn’t find the wounds he left on me.

“Long time, no see, big brother.” The familiar mocking tease doesn’t hide the anger I feel.

He left me. He abandoned me. He promised he would find me. Gold, my Gold.

Wait, no…realisation crashes, and I belatedly tremble under the knowledge he’s a member of this pack. Gold got a pack. Gold has an omega. My omega. I slam the door on those thoughts before I lose myself. But that feeling of devastation, the betrayal, the pain leaks into my scent before I can shut it down, and I sense Jet and Taylor zero in on me with small frowns.

His whiskey-coloured eyes flash as he recovers his poise, his shoulders straightening, and hitting me with a whole eye full of how much he’s filled in. He looks like he’s straight out of one of my fantasies. The dark whirls of thick black ink line his throat and wrists, making him appear dangerous and sexier than ever.

I’ve had a lot of fantasies over the years about this man in front of me, but my imagination sure failed to even get close to how good this alpha could look in his prime. It’s a kick in the gut. My entire world has been tipped on its head, first oranges, and then Gold.

“Step-sister,” He growls, correcting me like he’s done a million times.

The sound goes straight to my heart, ripping open old scars I thought were long healed. Scars I realise will never, ever heal. I’m proud that I don’t flinch.

But I’m rapidly sensing this move might just be the decision that ends me.

Shit. This is not good at all.

Jet

I have so many questions. Like why Gold’s sister is an alpha, and why do they hate each other? Who is she? Why does she smell like that, and why the hell is my cock this hard?

She twists around, her clear green eyes taking everything in. “So you bought the manor?”

“We bought the manor.” Gold growls again. He hasn’t moved an inch, and I look between the two of them with increasing curiosity.

Our omega makes a tiny noise, and Gold moves closer to him, running a hand up his arm. I don’t even know if he’s aware he did it.
