“Come here.”

The command is so unexpected, I wonder if I’ve imagined it.

I stand up warily and walk around the desk. He ushers me closer and turns on the screen of his computer. I shift closer still, trying to read over his shoulder, but he grunts, turns the chair, snatches me up so I’m perched on his lap, and then he turns us back to the desk.

“That’s better.”

For him or for me? I swallow hard as his arm wraps around my waist.

“I didn’t like the price for our agreement, so I was trying to work out something else I could do for you to show you how much Pack Knight appreciates your assistance.”

This feels wrong. It’s leaving an awful feeling inside me. But it’s the deal we came to.

I peer at the screen and see my business, R.Riding Corp. Beside it, listed as owner, is my name.

“I don’t understand.”

“I bought your business outright from your pack. I’ve sold it back to you.”

He says it like it’s nothing. Like it’s a small thing. Like it’s just an everyday occurrence.

I stand up, my eyes still glued to the screen, and then I turn and throw myself at him. It’s not dignified. It’s not elegant. There’s no seduction.

He catches me and holds me close while I cling to him.

“Um, Miss Scarlet?”

I don’t know what else he was about to say because I press my mouth to his neck and bite softly. He tenses, and I think I’ve gone too far, but then his hands clench around my thighs, dragging me higher up his body.

“Damn it.” Taylor growls. “All this control that I’ve mastered, and one second with you, and it all goes out the window.”

“I thought you didn’t want me?” It’s a breathless tease.

He grips my hand and drags it between us, curling my hand around him. “Does this feel like I don’t want you?”

I gasp and squeeze. His eyes flutter closed, and I stare at the sheer beauty of this man in bliss. Watching the way his throat bobs when he swallows back on a groan. I’m struck with a sudden yearning, a need, a desire to take care of this man. To protect him and be the one beside him.

It’s so overpowering that I pull my hand from his and stumble off his lap. His eyes open and track me.

Would it be so wrong to love them just for a little while? The wistfulness in my heart breaks something inside me.

“Taylor-” I cut myself off and lick my lips, my hands rising to my shirt buttons and freezing.

“Take your shirt off, War.” Taylor says in a rough voice.

I frown at the new pet name, but it suits me, it suits us. My fingers tremble as I reach up and strip out of my top. My nipples are hard, aching points. I want him to touch me, but he doesn’t. He just sits there in his chair, watching.

“Now, your skirt.”

I shimmy out of my skirt, letting the material pool around my bare feet. He sucks in a breath.

“No underwear?”

I blush. “Bar took it all.”

He clucks his tongue. “Sit on the desk and spread your legs.”

There are no nerves. This is a challenge. Who can survive? I want to win this, so I sit on the edge, adjusting until I find a comfortable spot with my feet on his armrests.
