Fuck.

When did I ever think I’d relate toDev?

The green fucker volleys his gaze between the blade, my face, and the monsters at my back. A mocking glimmer enters his eyes as a smile tugs up his lips.

“What is this?” He directs his next question at Dev and Tesq, pissing me off even further. “Are you guys allowing your pet to have a little bit of fun?”

He chuckles darkly, as if the thought of me hurting him is absolutely preposterous. I don’t know if this monster has balls made of steel or if he’s oblivious to the fury permeating the room.

Because he then does the stupidest thing known to mankind. Or monsterkind, as the case may be.

He stands and takes a step towards me, that cocky leer never leaving his face.

Maybe he believes that this is a test of some sort from the Terrors—to see if he’ll cower when face-to-face with a tiny human woman.

But if this is a test, he just failed. Miserably.

Before he can move even another step closer, I stab him in the arm, directly between his shoulder and elbow. Green blood oozes out of the wound as he cries out in surprise and pain.

My rage continues to swirl inside of me like a tsunami, and I swear—I fucking swear—ice pricks the tips of my fingers. Then I blink, and only smooth, unblemished skin remains.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

Am I losing my mind? Seeing things? Or did my hand actually frost over?

With another roar, I tear the knife out of the fucker’s arm and then move to his stomach, jamming it into his flesh. I want himto hurt, to suffer, to feel even an ounce of the fear that Chase no doubt did?—

“Aliana!”

Dev. I would recognize that bark anywhere.

He grabs my shoulder and yanks me back roughly. I’m not surprised. Out of all my mates, Dev’s the only one who doesn’t treat me with kid gloves. Yes, he’s a protective, possessive bastard, but he knows what I’m capable of, even if he doesn’t want to admit it. He’s rough with me…and a twisted part of me likes it.

I blink at him, confused, and then blink again. I feel as if I’m waking up from a long nap. Everything’s groggy and blurry, and my head spins wildly.

“Wh-what?” I ask as I attempt to come back to myself.

“We can’t ask that fucker any questions if he’s dead,” Dev reminds me harshly. His hands tighten on my shoulders as he bends down to ensnare my gaze with his own. He searches my eyes, but I have no idea what he’s looking for. Whatever he sees makes him straighten and jerk his chin at Tesq. “Grotesque, take over the interrogation.”

Some of the cotton balls in my head disintegrate at his words, but my rage isn’t appeased. It still flares white-hot inside of me—the type of burn you receive when you touch a block of ice.

“What the hell are you doing?” I growl as I push up on my tiptoes in an attempt to look taller.

His red eyes flare, almost the exact same shade as the Christmas lights directly behind him. “You’re not thinking with your head, mate. And that’s fucking dangerous, especially when you’re facing another monster.”

What the…?

“Are you kidding me right now?” I ball my hands into fists and feel something cold sweep over me.

“You’re freaking the fuck out right now,” Dev growls. “And if you keep acting like a dense bitch, you’ll kill one of our only leads.”

“Don’t call me a bitch, Dev!”

“Then stop acting like one and get your shit together!” he barks.

I know he’s right—that I’m acting irrationally—but I can’t seem to think clearly. All I know is that my entire world has been turned on its axis, and I feel adrift and untethered. Confused and scared.

And more than any of that, I’m angry. So fucking angry.
