As we drive to the shopping district of Vegas, Luka turns to me. “Tell me, of all those dresses you bought, did you choose one of them yet?”

“No,” I admit. “It’s one of the few things I’m still undecided on.”

“Excellent,” he proclaims, and I frown.

“How is that excellent?” I ask.

“Because of the surprise I have for you,” he says as we pull up outside the wedding boutique.

“Is it a selection of dresses?” I ask. “Cause we already have been through so many.”

“No, we donated all those,” he says, leading me inside. I stare at him.

“What? But what if I wanted one of those.” I pout. “Maybe I was falling in love with one.”

He leads me to the back, where the owner, Ms. Rogiers, is waiting. She steps aside and shows me the most beautiful gown I’ve ever seen.

“Mr. Milov wanted a handmade gown just for you,” she admits. “I’ve been using your visits to take your measurements.”

“It’s gorgeous,” I gasp, breathless. I step forward and touch it. It has a bodice-type bra that is encrusted with diamantes. It’s so shiny. From just under the bra part, the gown flows out. It would hide the baby bump, but more importantly, it is like a princess gown. It has layers and layers of tulle.

“Is it mine?” I turn to Luka, wiping a tear from my eye.

“Kervyn had it specially made for you. Did the design himself.” He beams at me.

“That…that is impressive and unexpected. May I try it on?”

Ms. Rogiers hurries to assist me.

Luka leaves, and I go into the dressing area to change. When I come out, I look at myself in the mirror, and it makes me want to cry. I look so beautiful. Kervyn has chosen something that accentuates every good feature I have.

I bite my lip, and I rub my hands over the dress. “It’s absolutely perfect. I love it.”

“You look manifique,” Ms. Rogiers says.

“I’ll let him know,” Luka says as he takes out his phone.

“No,” I say suddenly. “No, I want to tell him. I want to thank him for this.”

I look back in the mirror and smile. “Is he working tonight?”

“Yes.” Luka smiles. “Why?”

“I want to do something special for him, if I’m allowed to?” I ask, looking at him, and for once, I do not blush.

“Yes, it is. I catch your drift. Let’s get you something to wear.”

Ms. Rogiers pretends to be busy with another design.

Luka waits for me to change out of the dress, and then we go to other boutiques to find a sexy little dress that will go over my small growing baby bump.

Once I’m dressed, I curl my hair into large curls that cascade down around my face and back. I do a smoky makeup look and then let Currie drive me to the club.

When the bouncer sees me, he has a guard escort me straight to Kervyn’s office. I take a deep breath and knock on the door.

“I’m busy, so this better be good,” he calls.

I walk in. The office is empty except for Kervyn sitting on the sofa looking over some papers.
