I ended the call and went back to Nesha’s message.I’m okay. I made peace with it a long time ago. You know that. You should too, Jakari. I’m worried about you.

“Man, is we gon’ ride today or what?” Uncle Jasper asked, causing me to chuckle.

“Yeah, man. That’s Nesha. Now pass that shit. I only got one pull.”

He passed it to me with a smirk on his lips. I took a pull and responded to Nesha.I’m trying. For real.

“Nigga, you gon’ pass my shit back?”

“Hell naw. You didn’t abide by the puff-puff-pass. The rest of this shit is mine. Na let’s go.”

I urged my horse forward with a gentle kick as Uncle Jasper said, “You muthafucka. You better be glad I’m the plug of Nome and got another one.”

I laughed loudly. “I didn’t doubt that, Unc.”

As I sattoward the back of the crowd, I couldn’t help but see when Yendi walked her fine ass in the barn. I’d been anticipating her arrival ever since Uncle Jasper had told me she was coming. She arrived a few minutes late, but she didn’t know that the Hendersons were rarely on C.P. time. We were always ready to get the festivities rolling. If we said it started at three, people needed to get here by two fifty-five if they didn’t want to miss anything.

I scanned her from her leopard print heels to her thick ass lips. That red lipstick she wore had my dick standing at attention. “Mm hmm. I bet yo’ ass finna look alive around this bitch now.”

I looked up and saw Uncle Storm standing over me. “You go worry about who Bali finna creep out of here with.”

His head whipped around so fast that shit should have done a full three-sixty spin like the exorcist. I chuckled as I stood and walked toward Yendi. “That shit wasn’t funny, nigga. Gon’ have me in hurricane mode for nothing.”

I chuckled again as I watched Yendi greet Nesha. When she saw me approaching, her eyes never left mine. Nesha was still yapping, and Yendi had zoned in on me. When Nesha realized what was happening, she rolled her eyes but smiled. Yendi looked to have stopped breathing. She seemed nervous, like she didn’t know how I would react to her being here. I let a slight frown grace my face as I reached for her hand.

She slid it in mine, and I gently pulled her away from everybody. I turned to her when we got out of earshot of the nosy ass Hendersons. “What’chu doing here, Yendi?”

She cleared her throat, and her cheeks got red as hell. “Didn’t you invite me?” she asked matter-of-factly.

“I did, but I said I would pick you up.”

She slid her hand from mine and nodded repeatedly. I grabbed her hand again and said, “I’m glad you weren’t waiting on me, otherwise, you wouldn’t be here in this fire as jumpsuit, stuntin’ on every woman here.”

She smiled, but her eyes widened as I pulled her close to me and hugged her. As I held her, I asked, “Can we talk later?”

She pulled away from me, clearly surprised by my response to her being here, since her lips were still parted, and her eyebrows were somewhat lifted. A slow smile spread across her face, and that shit made my soul feel right. I lowered my head and kissed those pretty red lips. I couldn’t resist them. As I pulled away, she grabbed my shirt and pulled me back to her. I bit my bottom lip, then gave her what she wanted… my lips again.

While her action was aggressive, her kiss was tender as fuck. When I separated from her, I could see eyes on us, so I brought her over to my mama. “Mama, you remember Yendi, right?”

My mama smiled big. “I sure do. Hi, beautiful.”

“Hello, umm…” Yendi glanced at me.

“I’m sorry, baby. Chrissy Douglas.”

“Hello, Mrs. Douglas. It’s great to see you again.”

“Same.”

My mama winked at me as I brought Yendi over to Uncle Storm, since he was waving us over. I took a deep breath as Yendi chuckled slightly. When we made it over to them, he said, “It’s about time Jakari recognized greatness. I’m glad you’re back.”

“Thanks, Mayor Henderson.”

That fool smiled and grabbed her hand, introducing her to everyone as my girlfriend. Jess walked over to me. “Nigga, she yo’ girlfriend and you didn’t tell me?”

“Jess, we haven’t established what we have. You know how your loudmouth uncle is. She strokes his ego. At this point, she can do no wrong.”
