“Let’s have a girls’ night and go out for drinks soon. Simon over there can watch Kaila and we can kick it up.” She pointed out at a handsome man who was leaning against a purple Corvette.

“Daddy!” the toddler cried, squirming.

Merry set her down and the little girl took off running toward her father.

“I’d like that,” LeAnn said. Maybe Merry could give her some advice on how to attract a big sponsor or maybe even put in a good word for her.

“Here’s my phone number.” Merry texted it to her. “Good luck tomorrow.”

“Thanks.” LeAnn watched as she joined her family and felt a pang of something she couldn’t identify. It looked like there was life after rodeo after all, and it kind of looked nice.

Chapter Six

Dylan was nervous about seeing LeAnn again, which was ridiculous. He just had to treat her like any other student. Of course, she was the only student he’d ever slept with. He got to the barn a few minutes early because he didn’t want to keep her waiting. There were still some stragglers around and he wondered if that was going to be a problem for LeAnn’s need for secrecy.

He decided to check on Lola while he waited for LeAnn to show up. His horse was doing fine, and he stroked her nose affectionately. She had a few more rides left in her. So did he, but he was aware that the clock was ticking for his bull-riding career as well. It was just a matter of time before he landed wrong or a bull got in a good shot.

“Oh, you’re here,” LeAnn said, popping up from inside her horse’s stall down the same row Lola was in.

“What are you doing in there?” he asked, frowning at how stiff she was moving.

“Nothing. No reason. Look, let’s just get started.”

Dylan paused, wondering if he should mention the elephant in the room. But her eyes darted everywhere but to him and he didn’t want to make her nervous. If she wanted to pretend that nothing had happened, he was okay with that. Reaching out to her, he helped her out of the stall. She looked good, if a little rumpled. Her blond hair was pulled back into a ponytail, but a few wispy strands escaped it to frame her heart-shaped face.

“You’ve got straw in your hair,” he said, carefully plucking it out.

Her eyes wide, she just stared at him. Even with dirt smudged on her face, LeAnn still looked cute as hell. It was hard to resist the urge to kiss the tip of her upturned nose before claiming her full luscious mouth. One kiss was all he wanted. One kiss to remember how sweet it was, and to assure himself that the passion that had exploded between them that night was just the circumstances and not the norm.

Dylan let his fingers linger and trail down her cheek. He tipped up her chin, planning on just a quick kiss. LeAnn continued to watch him, mesmerized. He gave her plenty of time to stop him as he leaned down to kiss her. When she put her hand on his shoulder, though, it wasn’t to push him away, but to softly move it up to the back of his neck. That was all the encouragement he needed. He brushed a kiss on her forehead, then to the tip of her nose, and then finally Dylan gave in and crushed his mouth on hers.

Her mouth was as sweet as he remembered. She kissed him back eagerly, pressing closer against him. He hugged her to him tightly, reaching down to cup her ass as he deepened the kiss. Dylan wasn’t sure how long they spent kissing. But he knew he needed to breathe or he was going to pass out. Lifting his head, he managed to whisper, “Well, hello, LeAnn. Why have you been avoiding me?”

She blinked at him as if coming back to her senses. Taking a deep breath, LeAnn pushed him away. He took a step back to give them both some room. His head was still fuzzy and reeling from her kisses. A part of him wanted to say to hell with the training lessons. He wanted to take her back to his hotel room and see where this passion led them.

“I treated you poorly that night,” she said, looking down at her hands. “And I’m sorry for that.”

Poorly? Dylan barked out a laugh. “Sweetheart, if that was poor, I don’t think I could have survived you treating me well.”

LeAnn crossed her arms and gave him a glare that would’ve been scary on a six-foot-five man, but it only made LeAnn look like an enraged kitten. He knew better than to tell her that, though.

“You know what I meant. I used you for sex and I ordered you around like a drill sergeant.”

“I was strangely all right with that.”

She looked less angry, but she still rolled her eyes at him. “I know that. It’s because you’re a guy. But I don’t do things like that.”

“I know. I was there. I was your first.”

She blushed a fiery crimson, but she didn’t back down. “Yes, I know. I was there too. I chose you.”

“I’m honored,” Dylan said. “And I mean that.”

“I know I’m not like a lot of women you’re used to being with. I’m not a buckle bunny. I’m a lot more inexperienced. And aside from that one crazy night, I equate sex with love, and I know that most people don’t.”

Fair enough. Before he could say anything, LeAnn continued.

“I was waiting until I fell in love with someone before I had sex with them. I thought I was ready to be with Mick, but something kept stopping me from going through with it.”
