“That’s ridiculous,” she said. “You’re kind, sexy, and great in bed.”

He blinked at her. Is that how she saw him? What about broke and never around? “Thank you, but I also don’t have a lot of money. I live out of hotels when I win a rodeo event, and my truck when I don’t. When money gets tight, and it comes down to feeding my horse or myself, I feed my horse.”

“And you don’t think that’s special?” she said.

“I don’t think any woman is looking for that in a guy.”

“You were going to pay for dinner tonight, right?” LeAnn asked.

“Of course,” he said, affronted. “I asked you out.”

“And if you hadn’t had the money, you wouldn’t have asked me out, right?”

“Right.”

“What if I asked you?”

Dylan hesitated, sensing a trap. “I’d offer to pay half, and if I didn’t have half, I’d turn down the invitation.”

“But you wouldn’t let me know that was the reason you were turning me down.”

“Right. I wouldn’t want you to know that I was broke and I wouldn’t want you to feel obligated to buy me dinner.”

“Do you feel obligated to buy me dinner?” she asked innocently.

He narrowed his eyes at her. “That’s different.”

“No, it’s not.” She waggled her fork at him again. “The rules don’t have to be different for men and women.”

“Why do I think you’re going to tie this back into bull riding?”

“Because I am.”

“You realize that you’re preaching to the choir here,” he said.

“Not entirely. Is there a reason you think I couldn’t ride a bull like Maniac or Implosion?”

Dylan shuddered. “Those bulls are a nightmare. There’s no way I’d ever put a beginner rider on them.”

“Okay,” she said. “That’s fair. But once I get enough training, is there a reason why I couldn’t compete on a bull like Maniac?”

Dylan thought about it. “No. I mean there will always be risks because you weigh less than a full-grown man and your muscle and core strength are not as powerful.”

“But that can be built up.”

“Sure,” he said, trying to find a reason that wouldn’t sound like he was prejudiced against women riders.

“So eventually, you think that the WPRC could use the same bulls as the MPRC in their events.”

“Possibly,” he said, not willing to give her more than that. “There are too many variables for me to say for sure right now. But I see your point.”

“Good. Then let’s get back to your dating preferences.”

“Why?” he said.

“Because I’d like to go out on dates with you.”

That shocked the hell out of him. “I thought you didn’t want to be distracted from training.”
