“She’s a tough nut to crack,” Dolly said. “I think it would be a better choice to go with Sierra Boots.”

Merry made a face. “Like I was saying, Dolly, Sierra Broadway has very high standards for the athletes Sierra Boots decides to sponsor. No drinking is number one on their list.”

“LeAnn can do that,” Dolly said.

LeAnn looked at her sister. “How much are they paying for that?”

“Enough that you can drink at home instead of the bars.”

“No public displays of affection,” Merry ticked off on her fingers.

“That’s okay,” Dolly said. “LeAnn doesn’t have a boyfriend.”

“Actually,” LeAnn said. “Dylan and I are seeing each other.”

“What?” Dolly did a double take.

“Good for you. He’s a hottie,” Merry said.

“Why didn’t you tell me about this?” Dolly looked hurt.

“It all happened rather quickly,” she said. “I’ll give you the details later.”

“Over a soda instead of a beer,” Merry said. “Unless you want to cross Sierra Boots off the list.”

“I don’t think we can,” Dolly said. “They’ve expressed interest in you.”

This is what they had wanted. “Okay,” LeAnn said reluctantly. “Merry, can you come by the Winnebago for that beer?”

“Look,” Merry said. “I know how hard it is to get a sponsor. And how having that money is nice to have so you’re not relying on winning a fat purse every rodeo. But you don’t want to change who you are for the sponsor opportunity. It just isn’t worth it.”

Yeah, but who was she? She wasn’t Little Miss Goody-Two-Shoes and she wasn’t a Wild Grayson Sister. Just where did she fit in? LeAnn would have to level up her game. And bull riding was where she was going to shine. She had four more months, four states and less than twenty events to make it happen.

“Having Sierra Boots backing me will get me through the season,” LeAnn said. “I can manage not to drink or kiss Dylan in public.”

Merry shrugged. “It’s your call. But I think you should still pursue Lila Rogers. Cowboy Couture doesn’t have so many restrictions.”

“I’m not giving up on trying to attract them,” Dolly said.

“Me neither,” LeAnn said.

“Well, I’ve got to get back to the announcer’s booth. We’ll get that beer sooner or later.”

“Thanks for everything, Merry,” LeAnn said, glad to have her advice.

“Also,” Merry said as she turned to go. “Watch out for Debbi Peterson,” Merry said. “Not only is she riding well today, but she’s also been talking shit about you. Stupid stuff, but if Sierra Boots gets wind of it, it could sabotage an offer.”

“This isn’t about Mick, is it?” LeAnn rolled her eyes. “Because he’s been schmoozing up on me lately and I am so not interested.”

“She’s jealous,” Dolly said. “It’s because the WPRC and the MPRC want to push you and Mick as the new faces of the organization.”

“Gross,” LeAnn said.

“Gross, but good for attracting sponsors. I’m not saying you have to be nice to the son of a bitch, just smile for the cameras.”

“And don’t turn your back on Debbi. She’s a two-faced little snake,” Merry said.

“Thanks for the warning.”
