“But I want you to tell me,” he said. “That has to be half the fun.”

“It is,” he said. “I’m going to be a father.”

He moved closer and hugged his twin. “Damn. I’m going to be an uncle again. You had to have just found out. I know you. Are you even supposed to be telling me?”

“We aren’t telling anyone,” Hudson said, “but I can’t keep it from you. Delaney understands. She was a few weeks late, but we didn’t want to rush. She took a test this morning and it was positive.”

“She hasn’t even been to the doctor yet?” he asked, laughing.

“Nope. She’s calling today to see if she can get in to see Ava. By my math we are looking at around mid-May or so.”

“Congrats. I suppose I can’t go stop and see her before I leave?”

“You can,” Hudson said. “She’ll know you know but don’t say anything else.”

“Ava will know,” he said, laughing.

“She’ll keep it quiet until we are ready to tell Mom and Dad,” Hudson said. “We won’t wait too long there.”

He nodded his head. “I’m thrilled for you.”

“I’m thrilled for me too. I’m not getting any younger, but thankfully Delaney is younger than me.”

He laughed. “Good point. I’m the same age as you though.”

“You seem to be in a good serious relationship that is moving fast too,” Hudson said.

“I am. Not fast enough for that.”

At least not that he’d admit.

If he was thinking of a future with Laine he wasn’t saying a word. It was too soon at this point in her eyes. Not in his, but the last time he let his emotions run it didn’t work out.

Though he had to stop comparing because it was as his father said, he’d spent too many years not being who he was because of one decision. Everyone made poor choices and decisions in their life at one point or another.

“Don’t get in your head,” Hudson said.

“I got the lecture from Dad on the same thing,” he said.

“Oh, really?” Hudson asked.

“Yeah. I changed who I was because of Brynn. I’m so used to being that way and now it’s hard to be who I want to be.”

“I’d think Laine would be upset if she thought you were trying to be someone else,” Hudson said.

“She would, but she doesn’t know anything about Brynn.”

“Really?” Hudson asked. “That surprises me. You know so much about her life.”

It did bother him that he hadn’t told her about Brynn. “It hasn’t come up.”

“I can see that.”

“And we haven’t been together all that long. I don’t see her much either. More so the past week and won’t again for the next few.”

“How are you doing with that?” Hudson asked.

“Fine,” he said. “You know I never liked being pulled in all directions at once.”
