She moved into his arms. “No. For dinner. I had a good lunch. Now I’m having pizza.”
“Pizza with your favorite man,” he said, tugging on her hair.
“Yes, you are. Speaking of my favorite man, I’m giving your mother one of the sketches I did of you. She’s bound to bring it up. I had her pick the one she liked the best from what I had at the studio. I’m going to do one of Hudson and of Ava for her.”
“That’s nice of you,” he said. “Did she cry?”
“Almost,” she said.
“What made you bring them out?” he asked. “You never do.”
“I know. I got put on the spot by your sister-in-law. It was all in good fun.”
She finished off the piece of pizza.
“How about something else that is all in good fun?”
She giggled. “The reason I’m here.”
“That’s the only reason?” he asked.
“No. Lots of others. Not your cooking ability, but you’ve got other good traits.”
“Good to know,” he said. He grabbed her hand and pulled her up the stairs to his room.
He’d already showered, she knew, since he wasn’t in scrubs or in dressier pants and a shirt. He hardly ever had a tie on.
He pulled his red shirt over his head, she did the same with her orange sweater.
Together they undressed and were reaching for each other.
Before she could stop the words from coming out of her mouth, she said, “Let’s make a baby.”
“Huh?” he said.
“It’s on my list,” she said. “We love each other. People don’t have to be married to have a child.”
He was smiling at her. Not even questioning anything other than the fact that he asked her again what she’d said.
She didn’t know what to make of his reaction.

HIS EYES OPEN
Carson didn’t wait to say, “Let’s do it.”
“Really?” she asked.
He picked her up and laid her on the bed. “Yes!”
His mouth covered hers and he wasn’t giving her a chance to change her mind.
Ever since his brother told him he was going to be an uncle again, he couldn’t get it out of his head how much he wanted a child of his own.
He wasn’t getting any younger. Laine wasn’t either.
He didn’t want to miss a window in his life.
