“Nothing in life is hard if you are willing to work at it,” she said. “We are talking about finding time for fun. Who wouldn’t want to do that?”

“Are you only looking for someone to do fun activities with?” he asked.

Best to get to that now and see how much work he had to do to convince her for more.

“Let’s say I could find any number of people to do some of these activities with. Or I could do them alone.”

“Good answer,” he said, grinning. They placed their food orders and their drinks had been brought out. Just soda for him.He wanted the caffeine in another form than coffee before he started his shift.

“No scrubs for you tonight?” she asked, looking at his shirt and tie.

“I didn’t want to show up in scrubs for our date,” he said. He threw the date word out there to see what she’d say or do.

She smiled, her eyes almost glowing. “Could be the same reason it took me a long time to find the right outfit to wear to work today.”

That was more than promising. She wasn’t coming out and agreeing or admitting to anything, but she was playing the chase me around the rose bush game as he was running and pulling her along.

“Your dress is very pretty,” he said. It was a light peach in color. Sleeveless again and perfect for the summer with her light tan. The hem went to the floor and she had on a pair of mint green sandals. The only color other than the peach. It went well together.

If it wasn’t for the fact that she’d shown up in the ER in shorts less than a week ago, he’d wonder what the rest of her body looked like under her clothes since everything else she’d had on was more like a boho vibe.

Long, flowing and comfortable.

Soft, feminine and...her.

“Thank you,” she said. “This time of year I don’t work as much in the studio.”

“Work?” he asked. “You mean paint?”

“Pottery,” she said. “That is what I do there. I paint more at home but not always. This afternoon I had a painting class for ten vacationers. There was wine and cheese and chocolate. More laughter and conversation than attention on the vase of flowers they decided to paint.” She was smiling.

“Do you always use flowers?”

“I’d love to use live models. Are you interested?”

His heart raced a bit. More like started to pound. “For a one-on-one session with the owner, I’d consider it. For strangers, not a chance in...hamstring.” He had to hesitate there to not swear and figure out an alternate word.

She laughed. “You and your body parts.”

“As I said, they come easily to me.”

“Name five more that begin with H,” she said.

“Hair, hip, head, heart, hammer toe,” he ripped off fast.

“And yet you said hamstring over one of the others that most would come up with faster.”

“I’m a complex man,” he said.

“Some would say that about me.”

“No way,” he said. “You’re a mystery to me and maybe others but not complex.”

“A mystery?” she asked and put her chin in her hand. “Do tell.”

“Not many in the world are as nice as you.”

“I’m not always nice,” she argued.
