“You did,” she said.

She walked into the bathroom and gathered the rest of her things.

“You’re pushing me out the door,” he said.

“I’ve got to get to the airport,” she said.

“You’ll just be sitting around Logan,” he said.

“I will, but it’s the only time I could get there with Egan. Or that he could fit it in. I’d rather spend an extra forty-five minutes in the airport waiting than forty minutes at the docks or on the boat and beating traffic on top of it.”

“Good point,” he said.

He got his things to leave too and they were walking out together ten minutes later. “I’m sorry you are getting kicked out so early.”

“Just thirty minutes early,” he said. “I’ll go shoot the...spleen with Hudson. He’s always early.”

She gave him one more hug before they climbed in their cars, then turned before she shut the door and said, “I’ll be in touch today.”

“I’ll be waiting,” he said.

Laine followed him down the hill and then went to the airstrip.

She parked inside where Egan had told her she could keep her car for a few days. Carson had wanted to drop her off, but she’d said no. No reason if she could figure out a way back earlier. Even if she couldn’t get a ride with Egan or Lincoln, she would have taken the ferry back.

“Morning,” she said, going into the office and seeing Egan standing there looking at his phone.

He’d had a smile on his face and it dropped. “What? No food for me?”

She laughed. “Sorry. I didn’t know I needed to stop and get breakfast. I can go get it if you’ve got time.” She had time to kill before her flight at Logan.

“It’s fine,” Egan said. “Blake made pancakes this morning. She was craving them. But all I’ve heard is how much food Lincoln got from you and that he was pissed he didn’t get this trip with you this morning.”

She smiled. “That was Mario’s doing.”

“I’d love to have a chef like that at my place. Don’t say anything to Lincoln, but I stole a few bites of everything when he wasn’t around. He’d know if I took the whole thing.”

“My lips are sealed,” she said. “But I could bring something back from LA for Blake if she’s craving a taste from home.”

“I’ll ask Blake,” Egan said. “I appreciate the offer.”

“No problem,” she said.

“If you’re ready to go we can load up your bag and take off. You’ll have a bit more of a walk than if you were dropped off at the front door or parked.”

“Don’t care,” she said. “I don’t have to deal with the traffic getting in and out, nor finding a spot. Totally worth doing this.” Without much thought into it like she thought she would do, she said, “Can you check your schedule to see if you’ll be able to fly me to Manhattan and bring me back in two weeks? I know it’s a long shot, but I can be flexible. I think it’d be easier and faster and worth the price.”

“Sure,” Egan said. He made a note on his phone. “I’ll have Missy check and see what we can squeeze in.”

They climbed in the helicopter and Egan started the engine, put his aviators on, then lifted up once she was all set.

She was in the copilot seat and found it more enjoyable here. “Lincoln offered to take me up to get better pictures of the foliage. I’m thinking I might have to get a few angles of something to paint.”

“That’d be great,” Egan said. “I don’t suppose you do requests, do you?”

“I’m not a portrait person,” she said.

“Nope,” Egan said, grinning. “I wasn’t thinking that. More like this field that I took Blake to once on a picnic. I think I’d be the hero if I got that painted. Though that was in the spring so it wouldn’t work right now. Between us, I’m positive that is where Baby Bond was conceived.”
