"It said the same thing as yours but let me call Drew. Everything is fine, don't worry." I called Drew and on the second ring, he answered.

"Hey Maryam, what's up?" His voice, being cheerful, put me at ease, but still, I couldn't untie that knot at the pit of my stomach. It had extended from my heart, and now I could feel it in my gut like I wanted to vomit.

"Drew, hi. Please, is Ron at work?"

"Nah. Ronald left early. He told me Maddy was sick or something and that he had to go home early to check up on her. I think you called him to tell him that, right?"

I felt a banging in my heart. It no longer came as beats but bangs per second. What the fuck was happening?

"He called Maddy while in the car, but it sounded like something bad happened."

"What do you mean by something bad?" Drew's tone instantly changed to a more serious one.

"You know what I mean?" I didn't want to say it in front of Maddy, even though we were all thinking about it. "Could you help me check as quickly as possible? The routes and all that?"

"I'm on it. And please just stay calm, okay? Don't let Maddy know anything is wrong because nothing is wrong until we can confirm what happened. You should all remain positive. I'm sure he just went to a bar or something."

He said that, but his voice didn't convince me.

"Okay. Thank you. I'll be calling nonetheless because you know I won't be able to remain still."

"Fair enough. And I'll try to be as fast as I can in getting information back to you."

"All right, bye."

"Bye."

"So, what's happening?" Maddy asked not only her, but the maids stared at me expectantly too.

"He said he'd get back to us because Ron isn't at work. He left to come and see you."

"So, it's true." Maddy staggered backward.

"No, no, Maddy. We don't know anything yet. The last thing you can do is regress. Do you know how your body reacts to your mind sometimes?"

I'll want you to remain stable, especially with the surgery coming." Stress had to be as far away from Maddy as possible. She took a couple of breaths while closing her eyes. I helped her guide her breathing with her.

"You're fine. Okay, you're fine."

"I'm fine," she repeated, finally calming down.

"I know this may be the hardest thing you have had to do, which is saying a lot, but you must relax. All of us!" I whipped my head to look at everyone in the kitchen. "We need to calm down and wait for Drew to call us. If he doesn't, I will call him. Even if he does, I will call him again… but at this moment, we mustn't panic." These words came from someone who couldn't stay still on the inside. My body felt as if it wanted to run in several directions. I didn't know how to understand the terror inside me.

Positive thinking, though. I always told Ron to stay positive, so I'd do that for him. I'm sure everything will be fine. And when he comes home, I will give him an earful for scaring us this way.

I went outside to meet the guards. On opening the main door to the house, I saw Dean.

"Hey, Dean."

"Yes, ma'am." Dean had served as the Head of Security in Ron's mansion for a while now, meaning he might have been contacted. I knew that was a long shot, but I needed to do something.

"Has Ronald contacted you today?"

"No, not that I know of Ma'am. Why? Is there a problem?"

Being the Head of Security, he acted in a very proactive way, which I appreciated. He immediately showed concern and was worried.

"I don't know. He hasn't come back, and I'm worried."
