She scoffs. “Well, you can save that for when you get home. You have all the time in the world to think about your problems there.”

But I really don't have all the time in the world.

I let the thought remain a thought.

By the time I get home, I still have to keep checking Jayden’s schedule.

“What do you need?” I ignore the fact that she’s being unfriendly to me.

“This is Jayden’s itinerary. Send it to the SunRise clients.” She drops a piece of paper on my desk and proceeds to walk away.

The anger begins to stir up inside me, but I keep my cool.

“Wait a minute. Didn't the boss specifically ask you to do that?” I ask, sitting upright and appalled by Pamela’s newly found audacity.

“And I’m asking you to. Got a problem with that?” she retorts and pauses for a response.

I clench my palms into a fist under my desk and squeeze. Pamela has been stepping on my toes for a while now, especially since Jayden reduced my workload, practically forcing her to work.

“It's fine,” I sigh, releasing my fist.

“Good. You better make that fast,” she goes on to say.

At this point, I can’t continue to pretend that I don't notice Pamela’s newly found hate toward me.

“Do you have a problem with me, Pamela?” I call out.

Half the office turns to us, eager to watch the drama unfold, but that isn’t my intention at all. From the look of things, Pamela looks as though she has been waiting for this day for the longest time.

“I don't know. Do I?” she asks, turning back to me.

“Because I don't understand your attitude lately. Also, don't you speak to me like that again!”

“Or what?”

“Hey, slow down,” Jesse rushes to stand between us as Pamela launches at me. “You’re at work.”

“Then maybe you should tell her to watch her mouth,” Pamela says.

I chuckle quietly and retreat into my seat. Get thee behind me, Satan.

But if she comes for me again, I will have no other choice but to defend myself.

“I won't tell you again. When you need to speak to me next time, please be polite,” I say. “And stop ordering me around like you’re my boss.”

“Technically, I hired you, in case you didn’t know,” she retorts. “So, when I say jump, you better be jumping.”

“Where is this coming from?” Lydia, who has since walked over to my desk, asks.

“Honestly, I can't say I know. She has just been weird to me recently, and I just had to make sure I am not overthinking things,” I respond.

“Ignore her.” Lydia rubs and squeezes my shoulders as we watch Pamela go off explaining her side of the story to Jesse. “Sometimes she thinks she’s the boss.”

“What is going on here?”

Jayden’s voice brings the entire office to total silence. Even Pamela, who seemed to have no control just moments ago, keeps sealed lips.

Jayden’s eyes move from one person to another, waiting for his question to be answered.
