A connection, soft and full of tenderness, as if sealing the commitment we have just declared to each other and the world.

“Jayden,” she whispers tearfully, “are you sure?”

I pull away to look at her face. “One hundred percent, baby.”

“I love you so much,” she whispers again.

“I know this might just be me invading your personal life once again, but I just wanted to say congratulations,” Lydia interrupts our little moment.

She and Carissa share a hug. “Thank you so much.”

Carissa smiles, the tears falling freely from her eyes.

“You deserve this happiness,” Lydia continues as she nods repeatedly.

“Congratulations, boss,” she turns to me.

I nod with a smile and draw Carissa closer to me.

“Let me see your ring.”

The girls squeal as Carissa stretches out her hand to reveal her ring.

The ring shimmers with an exquisite five carat flawless diamond, cradled by a platinum band encrusted with smaller diamonds that cascade down the sides.

Its centerpiece is a rare pink diamond, radiant and captivating in its unique hue. The setting, meticulously crafted, holds an air of timeless elegance, reflecting my commitment and admiration for my beloved.

“My ex-husband would be surprised to see what an actual ring looks like,” Pamela says as they all admire the ring. “Congratulations, darling.”

She also goes in for a hug with Carissa, who gives me a surprised side look. I shrug.

Perhaps good news resolves all grudges.

“Matter of fact, you truly changed him, Carissa,” Claire chips in, “I have never seen the boss this vulnerable in speech and action before.”

Carissa giggles.

“Well, I’ve never seen him smile,” Jesse adds offhandedly.

“You should’ve seen him throughout the day,” Lydia continues, “He was beaming. He really can’t wait to marry you.”

“You’re right about that,” I respond. “Now, if you don’t mind, I’d like to take my bride to the altar now.”

Everyone cheers and applauds as I lift Carissa into my arms and carry her out of the office.

“This is surreal, Jayden,” she says as soon as we are inside the car. “I can’t believe this.”

She won’t take her eyes off the ring.

“You better start believing it. You are my wife now.”

“Not until I say I do at the altar.” She laughs.

“Why wouldn’t you?” I tease and jab at her.

Her face drops instantly and she tries to mask her sadness by looking away.

“What is wrong, Carissa?” I ask with concern.
