“What was that?”

“‘Difficult.’”

Vicky slapped me on the arm.

“Probably written by Shrisa,” she said. “We didn’t exactly get off to a good start.”

“What happened?”

“I kinda got angry.”

“You surprise me.”

“Imagine this. You wake up from a pod and have no idea who you are or what you’re doing there, or what’s going on. And there are two aliens dressed in Hazmat suits standing over you. How would you react?”

“Not great.”

I stretched and wiggled my fingers and toes.

Vicky slid her fingers between mine.

“Have I just become a notch on your belt?” she said.

“I have no belt,” I said.

“You know what I mean.”

I reached over and tucked her hair behind her ear.

“No,” I said. “You’re nothing like the other girls.”

Vicky chuckled.

“What?” I said.

“Any of the other girls?” she said. “That makes it sound like there were a lot of other girls.”

“Well, there weren’t a few. I have money, power, fame. I happen to be a great catch.”

“Are all Titans so humble?”

“Only the stupid ones.”

“Then you must be the dumbest one going.”

“Guilty.”

We shared a smile and I ran a finger over her cheek.

I was telling her the truth about how different she was to the others, even if it was in a ham-fisted way.

How could I make her understand?

“When my mom gave me her ultimatum, I thought it was the worst thing that could have happened to me,” I said. “No more parties. No more easy girls.”

Vicky made a face and coiled away from me.

“Then I came up with this harebrained scheme—courtesy of Zyod—and suddenly I was introduced to one of the smartest, sexiest… and most difficult women I’ve ever met. I was instantly bewitched by you. There were other girls, I won’t lie. But they’re fuzzy and distant. I can’t even remember their faces. How bad is that? The most intimate act you can do with someone, and I can’t remember their faces?”
