With each step, his presence becomes more comforting, his strength and warmth a reassuring contrast to the dangers surrounding us. I glance at him, my smile instinctive, and he returns it with a warmth that sends a flutter through my heart.

Already, at my touch and close vicinity, his fur unfurls and retracts back into his body, revealing his gorgeous scales underneath.

Reaching the summit, we’re met with a panoramic view of the maze — a scene both beautiful and daunting. Thick clouds pregnant with rain are draped over the platform and I feel the first few droplets dapple my head. A flock of alien birds with four wings call amongst each other, no doubt in search of breakfast.

It’s a moment of calm in an otherwise haunting world. When suddenly—

BOOM!

Our moment of awe is shattered by a distant explosion. On one of the other platforms, a volcano erupts violently, its structure collapsing into the void. The sight is both mesmerizing and terrifying.

“What… What happened?” I ask, my voice tinged with alarm.

M’ijel’s face is etched with seriousness as he watches the platform’s demise. “Game Over,” he says. “Their time ran out.”

His words resonate with a cold reality, emphasizing the perilous nature of our own situation. This isn’t just a game; it’s a fight for survival.

Turning to each other, we seek solace in the other’s embrace. M’ijel’s arms encircle me, a protective barrier against the chaos. His presence, so strong and yet so gentle, brings a sense of calm amidst the fear.

He whispers softly, his voice a comforting murmur against my ear. “Again?”

I press my forehead against his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart. “Yes, again.”

The rain grows more intense, already forming puddles on the stony ground. M’ijel takes me by the hand and leads me over to the Save Point. “Under here!”

We hurry underneath it and for a moment listen to the hard rain as it scrubs the platform clean.

Our kiss is a deep, intimate connection, a testament to the bond we’ve forged in this alien world. Our bodies come together naturally, a dance as old as time, seeking comfort and connection in a world that offers little of either.

Here, on the top of the pyramid, wrapped in M’ijel’s arms, everything else fades into insignificance. The looming threats, the game’s cruel nature, all dissolve away. In this moment, it’s just us, united, drawing strength from each other’s presence.

I shut my eyes and let myself feel the warmth of M’ijel’s lips on mine. His tongue explores my mouth as I trace a finger over his muscular torso.

So much to play with.

I can’t help but smile. He feels it on his lips and pulls back. “What is it?” he asks.

“Oh, nothing,” I say, but I can tell from that cock of his head that he wants to know. “It’s just that… if you had told me that I would have met you here. In this situation. Running from alien beasts that want to mate with me… I would have said you were nuts and called the funny farm.”

He frowned. “Funny farm?”

“The men in white coats.”

Still confusion.

“The paddy wagon.”

Still lost.

“The place where you put crazy people,” I said, reminding myself he wasn’t of my world.

He chuckles and nods. “Yes. I can see how that would be the case. But this is our situation and the sooner we get through it, the better.”

And then what?I wanted to ask. What about us? Will there even be an “us”? Or am I overthinking things again like I always do?

I bit my lip, trapping the words in my mouth. I don’t want to speak them. Not yet. We have enough to deal with already.

M’ijel scoots a little closer so his body — and his cock — his pressed up against mine. Then he runs a hand through my hair and gently strokes my cheek. “I won’t let anything happen to you. I promise.”
