Flames erupt towards the spot I’d vacated moments ago, his focus still locked on it. He doesn’t realize I’m no longer there.

This is my opportunity. I can get behind him, take him by surprise. My muscles coil, ready to spring into action. Every nerve in my body is alert, every sense heightened. I’m a predator, a hunter —and he’s my prey.

I inch closer, my breathing controlled, steady. Every step is calculated, deliberate. The corridor provides enough shadow for me to stay concealed, just out of his line of sight.

My eyes never leave him, watching his every move, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

He’s still firing blindly at the wall, oblivious to my approach. The arrogance, the overconfidence — it’ll be his downfall. He thinks he’s won, that he’s in control.

But he’s wrong.

I’m here, and I’m not about to let him take Zoey. Not now, notever.

I ready myself, poised to attack. My heart beats a fierce rhythm in my chest, a drum of war, of protection.

Zoey’s scream still echoes in my ears, fueling my resolve. I won’t fail her.I can’t.I would rather die.

This is my chance. If I act fast, if I’m precise and ruthless, I can take him down. I’ll save Zoey, end this threat once and for all.

This ends now.

Zoey

The brief glimpse of M’ijel brings a surge of hope to my heart. Just seeing him there, so fierce, so determined, makes me feel a bit safer, despite the dire situation.

The male is too focused on attacking where he last saw M’ijel, his sword unleashing one wave of destruction after another upon the wall.

His arm is like a vice around my waist, squeezing the breath from me. I gasp for air, struggling to stay conscious.

The power of his blows against the wall is terrifying. Fire, ice, and electricity mingle in a violent display, leaving the wall scorched, frozen, and crackling with energy all at once.

We round the corner, the male slower in his movements, his attention still fixed on the spot where M’ijel had disappeared.

I dread what we might find, my heart pounding with fear. I can’t bear the thought of seeing M’ijel hurt, or worse.

But as we clear the corner, there’s nothing but debris and destruction. No sign of M’ijel.

Relief floods me, but it’s short-lived. The male’s roarof frustration echoes down the infinite hallways, a sound of anger and disappointment.

Then, like a predator emerging from the shadows, M’ijel charges from an unexpected direction. Silent.Deadly.His focus is intense, his eyes blazing with a fierce determination.

He’s not just here to rescue me; he’s here to end this, to stop the alien male and his reign of terror.

And my captor still hasn’t seen him yet.I do my best to look away, as if I didn’t see him, but it’s difficult.

M’ijel’s attention isn’t on me or the male; it’s fixed on the sword in the alien’s hand. It’s clear he understands its power, its danger. He knows he needs to disarm his opponent, to neutralize the threat that sword poses.

As M’ijel closes in, I see a plan forming in his actions, a strategy to take him down. His movements are calculated, each step bringing him closer to his target.

The tension in the air is palpable, a standoff between two powerful beings, each determined to prevail.

The male turns at the last second and sees him.

Shit!

M’ijel rushes forward. He has no choice but to close the remaining distance now.

My captor tightens his grip around me further. But M’ijel doesn’t waver. He’s ready for this, ready to do whatever it takes to protect me and put an end to this madness.
