Pain courses through me, an agony so intense it feels as if my very essence is being drawn out of my body.

The male stands before me, his black ropes latched onto me, draining my strength. It’s a harrowing sight, watching him grow stronger, his muscles flexing and tightening with the power he siphons from me.

No matter how hard I fight, how hard I try, I cannot overcome these evil vines.

His eyes, shining with a malevolent red glow, are fixed intently on me. He speaks, his voice filled with a chilling certainty. “It will all soon be over,” he declares. The madness in his gaze is unmistakable, a madness fueled by power and the promise of victory. “I will take the female and make hermine.”

The thought of Zoey in his clutches ignites a fear in me deeper than the physical pain I’m enduring. I yell out in agony, collapsing to my hands and knees.

My ability to heal rapidly is no match for the relentless drain of my strength. I’m powerless, utterly defeated.

The male towers over me now, his black ropes still leechingmy life force. I can feel myself growing weaker by the second, my vitality slipping away.

He picks up a rock at his feet, a crude weapon to finish what his ropes have started. Despair fills me as he raises it high, preparing to bring it crashing down.

In this moment of impending doom, my thoughts turn to Zoey — to the life we could have had, the years we’ve lost, the children we might have raised together.

Tears stream down my cheeks as I mourn the future that’s being ripped away from us. I’m going to die here, on this dirty floor, in front of the woman I love.

And there’s not a damn thing I can do about it.

But then, suddenly, the rock drops from the male’s hand, cracking in half as it hits the floor. The black ropes retract, and I feel a trickle of strength flowing back into my body.

My head snaps up, my eyes searching for the cause of this unexpected turn of events.

And there she is — Zoey, standing defiantly with the male’s sword in her hands. Its tip is aimed directly at the male, her stance unyielding, her eyes burning with determination.

Relief and admiration flood my entire body. Zoey,myZoey, has intervened, standing up to this monstrous alien to save me.

In this moment, as I look up at her, my heart swells with love and gratitude. She’s more than I ever could have asked for — brave, strong, and fiercely loyal.

Despite the danger, she’s here, fighting for us, for our future.

Zoey

In the heat of the moment, with desperation fueling my actions, I grab the sword. It’s a leap of faith, a wild shot in the dark.

I aim it at the alien male, my hands shaky, my heart racing. I don’t even know how to use it properly, but it doesn’t matter.

Suddenly, I’m hurling one missile after another at him — fire, lightning, ice. It’s all so sporadic, so chaotic. I don’t really know what I’m doing, but it’s enough to stop him, to give M’ijel a chance.

M’ijel is struggling to his knees, but he’s still weak, drained of his strength.

The male, dodging most of the missiles, is closing in on me. I’m no warrior, not like him. I’m just Zoey, doing what I can in a situation far beyond my control.

As the male advances, I turn to M’ijel, tears streaming down my face. “Go!” I shout. “Get strong and come find me!”

It’s a plea, a command, a hope.

M’ijel hesitates, pain etched in his eyes. He doesn’t want toleave, but he has no choice. As the alien male closes the gap, M’ijel turns and stumbles away, disappearing down a corridor.

The male easily seizes the sword from me, shoving me aside like I’m nothing. He spins around, ready to fire at M’ijel, but finds him gone.

He peers around, confused, angry. He wants to chase after M’ijel, to finish what he started, but he knows he can’t leave me alone for long.

With a growl of frustration, he scoops me up in one arm and raises the sword above his head. “Come and get the female if you dare! I’ll be waiting!” he bellows, his voice echoing through the power station.

Then he turns and leaves, carrying me with him.
