Istride over to the male, who is desperately crawling towards his sword, cast aside during our confrontation. He’s leaving a trail of green blood behind him. I follow him, my footsteps measured and deliberate.

The male finally reaches his sword and swings it around in a last-ditch effort to defend himself. But his movements are sluggish, weakened from his injuries.

I catch the blade effortlessly. A plume of fire bursts from the sword, incinerating a nearby tree.

With a firm grip, I wrench the blade away from him and deliver a forceful kick. The male collapses, clearly in a dire state. He lies there, panting, his eyes locked onto mine, a mixture of bewilderment and defeat in his gaze.

“How?”he manages to ask, his voice a ragged whisper.

In response, I raise the golden gemstone, holding it up for him to see. It’s a simple answer, but one that speaks volumes about the turn of events.

The male’s reaction is unexpected. He shakes his head, a guttural chuckle escaping his lips. “The last gemstone,” hemurmurs, an acknowledgment of his defeat, a recognition of the power I now wield.

Then he lays back, his body going still, the fight leaving him.

I don’t bother to check if he’s dead. Instead, I aim the sword at his prone form, unleashing a pillar of fire that consumes him completely. The heat is intense, the light blinding, and when it fades, all that’s left is a smoldering husk.

Turning away from the remnants of my enemy, I make my way back to Zoey. My body has finished healing, the wounds closed, leaving no trace of the battle that just occurred. When I reach her, I wrap my arms around her in a protective embrace, a silent vow to keep her safe.

I promise her, my voice firm and unwavering, “I’ll never let anyone take you away from me ever again.”

It’s a pledge born from the depths of my heart, a commitment to protect her, to fight for her, no matter what challenges we might face. In this moment, with Zoey in my arms, I feel a renewed sense of purpose, a determination to safeguard our future together.

Zoey

Icling to M’ijel, tears streaming down my face, not just from the fear and pain of what we’ve just endured, but also from a deep well of gratitude.

I’m thankful, so incredibly thankful, that I get to spend more time with him, that we’re both still alive. In his embrace, I find not just protection but a profound sense of connection and love.

Overwhelmed by our emotions, we make love right there on the rock, under the alien sky, a testament to our survival and to the bond we share.

“Ten…”

The familiar countdown begins again, and we wake up in our pods, surrounded by the stark, sterile lights. We’re back at the beginning, yet everything has changed.

We share a smile, a silent communication that speaks volumes of our journey together. Around us, the other pods are already empty, their occupants gone.

Our pods recalibrate, adjusting to the Save Point we activated what feels like a lifetime ago. There’s a sense of anticipation, of a new beginning.

I place my hand on the pod wall and smile. M’ijel does the same. There are two floating lights on each of our pods now. And soon, we will be reunited.

We launch, our pods propelling us through the vastness of space, a journey back to where we need to be.

As we sail through the cosmos, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible journey we’ve been on. The fear, the pain, the struggle for survival, it all seems like a distant memory now, overshadowed by the strength and love we’ve found in each other.

We zoom through space and back to the platform’s surface, to the ancient ruins where our Save Point is located. It’s a symbol of our resilience, a reminder that no matter what challenges we face, we’ll always find our way back to each other.

The ruins, once a place of danger and uncertainty, now represent a sanctuary, a place where we can start anew.

The journey to the Save Point feels different this time. It’s not just a return to safety, but a return to a place where we can plan our next steps in this bizarre and dangerous world. It’s a chance to take a breath, to gather our strength, and to face whatever comes next, together.

As the pods slam into the surface bedrock, I hold onto the feeling of M’ijel’s hand in mine, the physical connection a reassurance of his presence.

M’ijel

As we emerge from our pods, Arty, the AI, awaits us, its form flickering with a forlorn air. It conveys a sense of melancholy, a digital entity burdened with the weight of a lost civilization.
